Why not just make the apartments that are already available functional;i.e. decorations, having friends come in, etc. It can't be too much trouble, at least I don't think it would be. I'm not a programmer, so I don't know what exactly would be involved but come on, AO has had these features forever and their servers/programming are years behind Ryzom.

I do like the idea of a carpentry and such skill tree so the crafters can make the furniture for the apartments :)

I can see it being quite involved.
All the new graphics, even if they are just non-functional pretties. Standardised or customisable apartment layouts by size/cose/race, all the previews, positional information, additional DBase info for every player with an apartment, making it work more like the GH than the apartments currently do, an invite system... there's a lot to it and it doesn't offer a lot to the broader base of players.

It could be functioning along the same line as our "traditional" crafting.
I.e. the same Qualitys and maybe even the same mats. With the same (or better more) color shemes. ;)

Only problem I see is the time it will take implementing all those new models and skins into the code.

But Jim, it does offer a lot to us RPers, don´t you think?

If we can 'play host' then yes.
There's other things that'd be easier that can be done more quickly for us though. Clothes and props.

Cloths would be cool :P pointless in combat... But good for RP I like that idea... even if you can't change your apt id like to be able to invite who I want in....Would have to be a way to un invite them too :P

Yeah, you wouldn't want to have Vhailor hogging your AmberBox, playing Dead or Alive Tryker Beach Volley all night when you got to get up early the next morning to forage excellent seeds.
Or worse, have him come over with his date!

it wouldn't be too bad. Look at SWGs housing method. You pay for the house itself and can set it up anywhere as long as there is an open spot and you're not in a city that has placed zoning rights. Once placed and you're near enough to a city, you can declar yourself a resident there and take part in the cities politics. For larger changes such as founding a large city or adding your city name to the map, there will be a slight delay until the next scheduled patch upon which it is then added in.

Of course to do that it would require the server to be patched 2 to 3 times a week and would require a ton of new code, neither of which Nevrax has shown much interest in doing with past projects.

This would be great, would pull in lots of players since I've yet to see an actual good player housing feature in an MMO.

I'd LOVE to see player housing. There are many ways it could work; a new district, or some kind of instanced thing. (Take an elevator to your room...)

As for duration of content... Horizons has what people it has almost entirely due to the elaborate ability to create buildings; useful for crafting, storage, and so on, plus the creative outlet of 'hey! Look at my place!'

It would add a dimension to the game and interest.
