Newbie Question
Re: Newbie Question
Ahh, so it is feasable, cause when I had asked in game, they all said it wasn't, the penalties ranging from double sap cost, to the spells being resisted more often, to casting times being slower, etc.

Feasable maybe, practical... not even a bit.aleloh wrote:Ahh, so it is feasable, cause when I had asked in game, they all said it wasn't, the penalties ranging from double sap cost, to the spells being resisted more often, to casting times being slower, etc.
Only Dark your Knight will be seeing while casting in HA is the darkness seen while the goddess Jena revives your limp body to the nearest teleport.

Re: Newbie Question
Jena, the pretender? I bet "she" is either some sort of alien (thus the karavan's disreguard for Atys) or some kind of kitin ALL HAIL THE KAMI!
edit: not to mention the fact that those karavaners never show themselves.. what do they have to hide? are they a buncha gooheads? or some sort of kitin? eh eh? EVIL!

Actually, I wouldn't go as far as the other posters... First, you can cast in Heavy, but how powerful a spell can you power when there's a penalty which greatly increases how much a mediocre spell costs?
However, who said anything about a dark knight wearing heavy armor? All you REQUIRE probably is a helm.
Here's an example of a 'Dark Mage' type look:

3 pieces of heavy armor, and the rest medium. You can even go as far as to use only the heavy helm and heavy vest, and the rest medium, you'll still be a very effective melee and can cast some spells.
Of course, do NOT use any time credit at all or it will take forever (the spells will be slow to begin with), and you want to power almost all by sap alone, so you save your HP's for meleeing .
You'd be a bit weird in that effective spell casting needs you to wear amplifiers, so you'd have to switch fast or else have a high close combat and actually punch your opponents! (amps are a closed combat weapon but also double as spell casting tools -- most only use them for magic).
So, all is not lost at all in my opinion
I believe there is no correlation between resistance and whether you wear heavy armor, I believe whoever said that is incorrect. There are a lot of subtleties in Ryzom, so it's possible, but seems unlikely. the Resistances are all based on some innate resistance, and some boost due to gear for homins, and critters have resistances to different things, there's not any reason to conclude your malus has anything to do with it .

Re: Newbie Question
A well crafted set of Medium can have +2 parry and 40% protection, making it a superb choice for melee, while having a lower malus than heavy... You'd have a little less HP than in heavy, and a bit less protection, but you'd cast cheaper, not to mention use less stamina when meleeing.
The choice between MA/HA is largely up to you though. Some people (including yours truly) never use HA, relying on their MA to protect them in melee...

Re: Newbie Question
You can do the Dark Knight angle all you want. Your spells will be of lesser dmg than a "true caster" but that's the samey same in the games you mentioned. SK and Pallies dont do the spell dmg that Necros or mages do in those games either.
You'll be able to tank as well as a warrior, cast as well as a palli or a sk, heal as well as a cleric, ect ect. You might find you prefer to mix and match medium and heavy or even have a piece or 2 of light mixed in as you go along...but you might also find that coming at such a game with character concepts predefined by other game systems wasnt all that good an idea...
And if you do, then no problem. No need to start over, reroll or any of that nonsence. Just keep growing where you find yourself shallow in skills to get your character to what you want.
And if you find the pre-defined concepts work for you, then again, no problem. Just keep on truckin'.
I do find it interesting that folk tend to look for "flexible" then try to cram it all into a tightly defined box. I'd even bet that I did much the same thing when I started, but my memory dosent go back that far, anymore :/
I need a new bio-hard drive.

Where does the light go, when the light goes out?
