In other words: there is such a page, but it does not show the actual server status, which means it is of no use. I see room for improvement here.

Yes, there is such a page, the Ryzom Server Status Page (to be found top right on the front page).
The page katriell quoted is a third-party service, based (necessarily) on the official page. The recent server side patch (reconfiguring the architecture) has messed up this very page, so any utilities based upon it are broken as a consequence. Nevrax is working on this issue, should be working soon™
