Put on a set of headphones, then turn your character ;)

You can tell which side the sound is coming from, its superb :)

As far as I know, when it was introduced it was the only major MMO to have it too. Not sure how many have it now :)

question: "When the Ryzom Ring launches this fall... (snip)" (so it's already delayed?) "Thus, initially, only the free option of having your scenario active when your client is active will be available" (ouch, this seems unfortunate).

Oh next time can you add in a comment about how Ryzom has EAX positional sound? Really gives Ryzom's sound a good edge imo :p

I have surround sound and man, does it help. Often, my first warning that trouble is comming at me is the snarling, growling, howling or clacking of the monster running up my blind side.

Hmm, I realy don´t see this as "unfortunate", more logical.
Because, the large amount of Scenarios one can expect to be created by players in the initial "RingRush" ;) will be most hard to look through.
As Nevrax said, they will be testing scenarios and with help of the player ratings will judge if a scenario will ever be added to the Game.
This is sure to take a good amount of time and work on Nevrax side.
So in my eyes it´s only logical that they´re not letting us implement our Scenarios first try.
Also, consider the huuuge amount of diskspace and bandwidth needed if R² comes up. Not to speak of maintenance, costs and possible hidden bugs.
I surely hope that there won´te be any significant bugs to R², but imagine they´d let us all implement our Outlands, and then suddenly a realy BAD MOFO of a BUG appears... All work gone...
So I´m completely on Nevrax side with this. Let us experiment, let us help finding hopefully the last few small bugs and THEN let our Scenarios become one with the ever growing Planet, we´ve all come to love. :D

Yes, I see your point. What I meant is that if, at ring release, it is not possible for players to "pay for hosting" -- as a side note, I have no idea of the business model here, I don't know whether the majority of players are willing to pay to have their scenarios hosted or not :? -- and scenarios are only available while players are online, not only one source of income is not yet available, but it means that players will only be allowed to play in scenarios when the creator is online. For Aniro or Leanon it may be less noticeable than for Arispotle, where there are important time zone differences. My remark was in the line "it is unfortunate that players will be not able to test other players scenarios even if creators are willing to pay to have them easily available to others"

Thaaaat said, I've always had a question. What's the point of hosting a scenario, if I can remain logged 24h? I take it the scenario will be hosted at my computer and that players will be using part of my bandwidth, right?

I don't know about the bandwidth, but I know you can't stay logged into Ryzom indefinately. I've seen people start to get some weird things happening even after 24 hours.

Like what? Oo

Speaking in tounges?
Trying to "mount" an Ocyx?
Running naked shouting "Booyakaabooyakaabooo!"

Or just getting plain, old disconnected?

Or even *gasp* trying to switch FACTION?!

:D

It is actually possible (I've been logged in for days) but yes, I agree, system resources being used up, 1 - 3 FPS for a few mins, stalls, but if you don't crash youcan teleport and things get better. Also, in some cases textures can be messed... but all in all, for personal experience (this PC is almost exclusively used for ryzom) you can stay logged in for days.

Offtopic: that said... since the big patch, I am definitely seeing game runs slower... and those lately reboots make me worry about stability. things had improved a lot since the first months thanks to spring clean, where the server had to bee rebooted regularly, but the recent reboots... any issues? is some kind of debug code path enabled or something? the new architecture seems complex enough :)

Besides the things Ani mentions you also end up getting odd messages and things jsut not working right. Most things seem to be visual and technical anomalies. The game still works, but it's a little weird.

Besides this fact, most people use their computers for other things besides Ryzom anyhow. So leaving Ryzom running 24 hours a day isn't really an option for most of us.
