Cerest and crew, the real issue.

Come in, pull up a chair, let's discuss all things Ryzom-related.

My whole point was that JDexter misinterpreted the statement. The US GMs didn't say anything that conflicting with what you quoted.

The answer is, unfortunately, yes. There were some exploits that were found that caused a severe inbalance of the game and we had no choice but to reupdate the server than may have caused some rollbacks

We have implemented some fixes that will assure that this never happens again. We apologize for any inconvienience this may caused you.

Actually they are in conflict. The above US official word was exploit was the reason for the rollback. UK official word was rollback was caused due to faulty saves, which could be exploited. I didn't misread anything. They are conflicting.

That was the statement that was misread. He didn't say that the rollback was caused by faulty saves. The faulty save code was what people were abusing, and had nothing to do with the rollback.

You might not hug me again, aelvana but this is wrong :(

3 posts above you can read the exact words from the UK board and jdexter and me have understood it quite right - they are telling 2 different stories.

But as soon LAWRENCE himself would post that he was simply misunderstood or did write his comments in the hurry that understandably occurs in a time of pressure and stress and could be misinterpreted by conspiracy freaks ;) ....

....I would be willing to apologize to make such a big fuss over nothing. No problem cause in that case it really would have been *nothing* and I would have wasted only my time and anyone elses time too.

I just dont take it from any poster here who has exactly the same insufficient informations as I have myself.

... our team had to perform a database rollback in order to deal with character save problems ...
This is the statement in question, yes? Looked to me like by "deal with" he meant "correct." They did the rollback to correct the "problem" of duped items existing. I was correct.

I do see what you mean. If I'd have thought they were trying to cover up or lie, I may have read it like you guys did. I was incorrect.

So was I right ... or were you right? This is exactly what I mean by reading into things too much. Overanalyzing anything said by anyone can produce arguments like this.

We all know what happened, and they did their best and told us what happened. They're not lying or out to get us. It's not a complicated situation...

OMFG guys.. this issue is nothing! be glad you got away with losing 1 - 4 levels and not all of them! its not like the world is going to end! you can get those levels or whatever you lost back in no time. I am quite sure that this is not going to be the biggest issue this game will have. I still dont see what your trying to get them to apologize for. Server goes down server comes up, you get on with it..........

UK Version: Server issue, our fault
US Version: Exploit issue, players fault

It's all how its spun. It just smacks of dishonesty to place the blame on players. Regardless anymore what happened, one version says its our fault, the other version takes responsibility.

Props to the Lawrence of UK for his statements.

No it says its the exploiters fault, sometimes people have to take a thumping for the greater good of the game.

They aren't mutually exclusive. One commented on the need to reverse what players had exploited, one commented on the need to fix the bug in question. BOTH were right. You can stop looking for the conspiracy, there isn't one...
