1) find a nice ripe excellent or, even better, supreme node
2) swing your luckiest pick carefully to prime the node and coax it into mode 5
3) tenderly heal the node's life back up to bursting before hitting it with your most aggressive action, hammering at that risk bar with all your might!
4) stab Invulnerability just as the node goes BOOM!
5a) 3 seconds later you're back on the surface surrounded by surprised bodocs, with no teleport sickness
5b) 3 seconds later if you got your aim just right, you finally made it into the canopy. Awesome!
Yeah, and if we get enough Homins to do just that we could collapse the entire new Lands :D
Anyone for a nice, old fassioned "Super Villain - Destroy The Whole World Plan" ? :D MUHAHAHAHAHAHAW!

There are no downs to spending your skill points (SP), that's what they're for. Each time you perform a skill (kill a mob with melee or magic, dig a source or make an item), you gain experience points (XP). Each time you gain a level, you gain 10 SP. You use these to buy new skills or upgrade existing skills.

Bottom line (unless, as Katriell said, you're saving for something costly) - spend, spend, spend. :D

EDIT: although it might seem at low level like you never have enough, trust me, after a while you'll find you have too much. My spare magic SP currently stands at about 1500.
