I voted the "untill something better comes out"
This is not saying that ryzom is bad, far from it, the reson i am here is because its the best out there, but logicaly, none of us would be playing if we had found a better game ;)

That was my vote as well Kinda reminds me of Johnny Rico in the movie 'Starship Troopers', accepting the position of platoon leader. "I'll do it until I die or you find somebody better."

Ryzom's big draw, as far as I'm concerned, is that it's so different. Until something else comes along that appeals to me better, well, after not even being online for nearly a year, this is the game I came back to

Yup that's the one I'd choose too. I've dabbled with other MMOs but yet to find anything that hooks me within minutes like Ryzom did. I guess that's part of the problem, Ryzom hooked me straight away. Only thing that would pull me away is a game that did the same. However, I suspect that as a Ryzom Addict I subconsciously view them all with a 'not gonna be better' outlook so they have no chance of doing that.

I'll go with till I die - or at least till the server does. :D

We'll see, played to many MMO's with content, waiting to see if Nevrax will decide wheter they are happy with it being a strictly "grind" game or if they will actually start drawing the MMORPG crowd with added content and better PVP rules. If not, then shortly after R2 for me. I am a multi genre RPGer, so without some content I bore easily. To grind, or not to grind, that is the question, but without the grind, there is very little to do.

LOL what do you expect from Funcom ? Funcom has made Anarchy Online with by far the best set of PvP rules i have EVER seen. You must be a game newb if you thought they will make a PvE game... And just because PvP in Ryzom is poor and seriously bad featured in general doesnt mean other companies cant make good PvP games.
I really dont understand you PvE folks anyway... why do you pay for a PvE game when you can have the same with a cooperative mode game ? Whats the point in killing thousands of mobs and no matter how hard devs try to make NPC/Mobs AI good it will be never like fighting against a bunch of players. I play online.. ONLY for PvP... the rest i can have in coop games or offline...

You can ignore grimjim, I've only been here a week but it's clear he's just a troll. :)

I partly agree with you. I will NOT play an MMO game that has no PvP. It's just pointless. But I'm also an explorer and a bit of an achiever (not too much, too lazy heh), so I love PvE content as well. And fighting in groups of real people cooperatively beats the pants off of any single player game I agree 100%.

Ax

I played AO on and off for a few years. I never felt forced to join in the PvP in that and the PvE and RP community was reasonable, but not stellar.

Why play a PvE game? I'm a tabletop RPGer, I come to an mmoRPG for the world, for the cooperative play, for the community, for all the RPG aspects. RPGs are non-competetive, cooperative games - that's the major part of their appeal and what (can) differentiate them from the usual leaderboard and hypercompetetive crud you get playing FPS etc.

What's the point? To be a hero and advance the story, not to 'pwn'.

As you get older and people get families and things it's much harder to get people together for a tabletop session, that's part of the reason so many TT gamers end up migrating to mmoRPGs. A lot of other people come across from those competetive online games and both sets have very different expectations and needs. It IS possible to meet both.
