hmm could be, cherries, plum and peaches are called "steinfrucht" (stonefruit) in german as there core is hard as stone, but some other idea... shells are more or less only chalk... and if they are compressed, over time, they become limestone, not the hardest of the stones.. but a stone none the less, maybe he found some of that?
but back to the topic

aah, i remember my grandfather used to love fish, be it baked, fried, cooked or smoked
, but as we had lost all contact to tryker merchants, we at Suri-Chan Tunnels, my village in the PR, had none save the few we could get with our fishingbowrifles and spears at a Saplake near our village.
only able to get those near the shore, the biggest and best fish soon learned to stay in the middle were our spears and fishingbowrifles didn´t reach to. that was something my grandfather boothered massivly,
hehehe.
he was quite adventurous in his youth, did wander the lands of the tryker in his past(thats were he aquired his tastes for fishies
) and rememberd the boats of the trykers, but didn´t really know how to build them.
what he did come up with, stayed on the surface... mostly
, but he did get better with time, the ones i remember looked like a large basket.
the mats used were rods of wood or bamboo, skins, fiberstrings, oil and resin. you have to soak the rods in water and weave them into a large round basketlike shape, then the skin were sewn together over that frame with the strings and then a coating was ablied to it that was made of resin disolved by cooking it in one of the dring oils(was it irin or gulatch.. you know the one that is used in paintings) to get it waterproof.
no it wasn´t a pretty boat, but he used it to get the big fishies
maybe this can help The Skipper

Bolobi or Wombaï skins, dipped in resin and filled with foraging gas, bound together with bark and fibre, may help to keep your 'stones' nearer the top of the water than the bottom, while being a bit more durable than untreated Yubos.
The husk of an Arana (preferably slain using Poison - most other techniques causing too much structural damage ) has possibilities, but several may be needed for a reasonable capacity..
While the Matis have had little cause to consider this matter, our allies amongst the Trykers will surely benefit from us turning our intellects in this direction.

Inspector Ulyros has asked me to post this for him.
Homins, this morning a bottle containing a coded message was found on the shore near Fairhaven. From the looks of the writing I suspect Wormbreath wrote this and intended his Master Oba to find it.
Wormbreath did this, Im sure, because of a little incident with the Blackwater Pirates and a piece of Amber, he has been trying to avoid the Blackwater Pirates since he owes them quite a hefty amount of dappers. I myself would like to talk to those pirates as well about that little pickpocket game they played on Rehn.
The Guards Code breakers are hard at work on this but have yet to crack it. Since the disappearance of the seven Homins aboard the Skippers Ship the Ora, it has become critical that this code be broken as fast as possible. I wish to question Wormbreath more about the assassination of Stil Wyler, even though the Assassin has been captured, there is the question of who paid her for the job and also Rosinio and Han are worried about Nillo, who was first Mate on the Ora.
They left the other day for what was supposed to be a three hour tour, unfortunately there was a huge storm last night and the Ora is feared lost. Rehn and his new bride, Sara Shipsie as well as *cough* Ginger D'Arppy were also on board the Ora.
Here is the code, please help me in breaking it and hopefully finding a clue to where the seven stranded castaways are located.
Please post here if you have any luck in unraveling the mystery of Wormbreath's code.

I ran into the Professor tidying up his note on radia crystals and passed a copy of the note to him. I thought he was ignoring me as he barely looked at it before thrusting a hurredly scrawled bit of paper into my hand

Heehee, read it and you'll notice it makes no sense, the sentences are all still broken up and the beginning is at the end, and vice versa

I think it should read something like this :
Masser,
Inspector Ulyros seems to suspect you and me in the recent assassination of the Tryker Governor, seems the Grand Sage Mabreka mentioned your name to him.
Cyndi and I left on some Tryker inventor's ship to let things cool off for a bit. Unfortunately it has sunk in a huge storm, leaving us all stranded on this blasted island, water all around! We are far south on an island surrounded by mountains.
Luckily I brought along a few barrels of KamiBlast and Fire Wine, that's keeping Rehn and I occupied at least, though his sharp tongued Wife, Sara, does not like it at all, MUAHAHAHAHAHA!
Rehn is too drunk all the time to swim and his Sara refuses to leave him with me, to get help, Cyndi wont leave my side either, the inventor guy never bothered to learn to swim and neither has this Ranger trainee kid Nillo. Also that Harlequins of Atys Star, she just says she likes it here and wont leave.
I hope this finds it's way to you Massser and you can come rescue us.

Inspector Ulyros has asked me to post this additional information for him.
Homins, thank you for de-coding the message in such a timely fashion, I have gently chided my own code breakers about their lack of skills.
With the message in a readable form there are still a few questions that we need answered. I would like to invite anyone that has any information about the Skippers movements and anyone that was present at the Yubos Leg in Pyr, near the fountain when Wormbreath and Cyndi were there, as well as any Homins that have any further info about the Assassin captured this weekend past, to please come the Fairhaven Stables on Wednesday April 26th at 8pm BST and tell me what you may know.
I will be accompanied by Han Kiou, the Ranger mentor and Nillos girlfriend Rosino.

To The Rescue;
"Inspector Ulyros has requested that all interested Homins gather at Windermeer on Saturday the 29th April at 8:00pm BST, 3:00pm EDT/EST for a search and rescue attempt to find the seven missing castaways. The Blackwater Pirates have indicated that Windermeer is the closest area to where they suspect the castaways are located.
The inspector thanks you all in advance for your support."

Homins, I'm not sure where this came from but this song may have some bearing on the coded message and the Homins that are missing and last seen boarding Skippers ship, The Ora:
Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale,
A tale of a fateful trip.
That started from this Tryker port,
Aboard this tiny ship.
The mate was a mighty Ranger trainee' man,
The Skipper an inventor brave and sure.
Five passengers set sail that day,
For a three hour Laken Isle tour, a three hour tour
The weather started getting rough,
The tiny experimental ship was tossed.
If not for the courage of the fearless crew,
The Ora would be lost; The Ora would be lost.
The ship took ground on the shore of some uncharted Lakeland isle,
With Nillo, The Skipper too,
Rehn, and his Wife,
The Harlequins of Atys Star, Wormy and Cyndi Ann,
Here on Nillo's Isle
..
