Hey Karm, I probably started playing just a couple of weeks before you - and I actually remember meeting you near Zora when you were fresh on the mainland Anyway, it's great to see you're still here!
Sorry to hijack your thread geldain To keep on topic, I'll say this - I went off to play WoW for 9 months+, and came back here only last week or so. WoW gave me a good experience for those 9 months, but for one reason or another, I find myself back in these parts again Ryzom has much to offer - fantastic community, a large world to explore, still one of the best weather systems I've seen, and definitely still one of the best mob/AI behaviour systems I've seen. The current crop of MMOs being released this year are as good looking or better than Ryzom in some ways - but they just don't have the feeling of being alive that is unique to Ryzom, and are simply showing off high texture quality and 'that damn glow effect shader'

Welcome to the Game, And know that I am not the oldest player in the game is good for me, lol. Yet I am in the, shall we say, more mature group. I hope you enjoy the Game, and I havent play wow, but I played, Eve, and Earth and Beyond. This game has so much more to play around with, more thigs to lvl, more challenges then any other game Ive played, Thats the main reason Im still here.
Just wish we would get a few more Rites <.<

Re: Another WoW player taking a look
I think that you have found what you are looking for. The community is generally mature and overwhelmingly helpful and polite in-game (sometimes the forums don't reflect this friendliness.)geldain wrote:To be brief, I'm 45. Love gaming. Love the concept of MMO's. I've played WoW, Lineage 2, FF and EQ2. To be honest, I'm bored with them all. I'm bored with all the foul language in general chat and the ying and yang of 12 yr olds.
This community seems to be more mature, based on what I've read thus far. Is it?
The game looks like it might be the mental stimulation I've been looking for since it's not quest oriented or the grind/fetch/grind of the games I mentioned above.
Any input would be appreciated

Welcome back Dazman
And thanks for giving a little insight as to why you as an experienced mmorpg gamer thinks this game differs from the lot

Re: Another WoW player taking a look
Heh, you sound like me... (same age too *hrm*). I've tried quite a few other games, but have found nothing to compare with Ryzom. It is the only world I have found that really feels alive, partly due to the incredible creatures that populate Atys, and partly due to the ongoing storyline instead of fixed quests that everyone does over and over. There's lots of grinding that you can do if you want to, but there is no need to grind if you don't feel like measuring your enjoyment with XP and levels. As a brand new homin off the starter islands you can take part in hunts and explorations anywhere (though of course some wheres are a lot more dangerous than other wheres ).geldain wrote:I wandered across this game last night while I waited for WoW to come back up.

Re: Another WoW player taking a look
Most of the moaning is about PvP as the valid discussions have kind of been rehashed several times. Beyond that mostly good. The forums have setteled down alot (as in less posts) from a year ago, but still good discussions to be had.
Even the nasties on the boards are pretty nice in-game.
