So Cygnus, you got multiple extra limbs then??
Well, I´ve got an alt or twink or whatever you may call it, by the name of....

And I play him ever so often when none of my IG friends are around to experience a bit of Noobi Nostalgia again.
Ah, the times when we were able to lvl 50 lvls a day... *gg*
My Main Charakter is Lylanea, Matis too.

I have seen quite a few oppinions on this, varying from harsh punishment of multiple characters helping each other to totally ignoring it...
In this situation, since an account allows 5 characters it encourages you to do 5 as a base outlay. and if you want to pay for more? go for it! I love this game, I dont think anything is spoiled by people having multiple accounts (except maybe infiltrators), and frankly Nevrax can use the money to make the game even better

Is it taboo?
Just chiming in...

For each account, you can have up to 5 alts, play at your own will, and enjoy different aspects of the game, or just to meet new players, start over after several months, etc.
It's up to you and your ethics what you want to do with your alts, and there may be guilds that will ask you for both your login name and char name in order to join (I haven't heard of any, bu who knows, although there isn't much to spy, to be honest

and there aren't uber strategies discussed in faction channels either)
Also, it has been stated by one GM in another shard (although afaik, same rules apply in all shards) that having storage alts and mules is allowed -- and common practice as well for some players -- although you may need to rely on another account, a friend or a guild hall to transfer items.
As long as you pay, you can have several accounts, and you can play simultaneously if you have 2 computers (pity you can't run several instances of Ryzom at the same time

). I haven't tested playing with two accounts using virtualization (despite Ryzom being pretty intensive and greedy graphics-wise), so I don't know if this works or not, and if there are side-effects of using the same public IP for both (I don't think so, there seem to be several players using NAT, I don't see why it wouldn't work, unless Nevrax decided to filter on the IP address).
The only thing that the code of conduct may forbid and most players would object to, is using third party software or unattended macroing to control the the second account (we have two hands

). Nevertheless, the game offers enough macroing flexibility to run two accounts at the same time, and having a "healer", "careplanner" or "elementalist" within the rules to overcome teaming issues is quite common.

Ani

It is very ironic that you mentioned this particular subject. I have two alts that I play. My main alt is Keiko-a karavan in the Out Of Cavern guild. And my secondary alt is Jesse-a kami in the Merchants of Void guild. Recently, I-as a player- have experienced a lot of harsh words due to the fact that I have a kami character, from many karavan players. I do not keep it a secret. If someone asks, then I am more than happy to let them know that I play two avis. I am not a spy for either one. When I play Keiko, I am Keiko. When I play Jesse, I am Jesse. Due to that fact, and a few others, sadly- I had to leave my old guild. So, in other words, some people may not like you playing two avis, especially if you play two differnent factions (in my opinion, I think it is just people taking the game waaaaay to seriously and not keeping the game a game). But, some people do not have a problem with you having two different avatars. I guess it all depends. I have learned to live with that fact that some people now shy away from me, but it is me playing the game the way I want to, and people will have to deal. Do you catch my drift?

Yes, and well said keiko. It never ceases to surprise me that people expect us to ignore both old and new friendships depending on the sides we've chosen in a game; the best feature said game (according to almost every player I know) is its "awesome community". It has always had such a community, but now with the incorporation of such a combative theme and the type of player Nevrax is now attempting to attract I fear for the longevity of the spark and friendliness this community has.
Hopefully I'm wrong, but the cracks started showing some time ago in my opinion. Already I'm hearing bad things about the incoming players, such as one player who simply popped an exchange window to a friend before sending him a tell saying simply "Money". Also I have to say, with some exposure this weekend to the relatively recent intake of PvP fare, I haven't been impressed.
Although I think keiko's way of telling anyone that asks that she has an alt is the best way really, I wonder now if I would let on, or keep it a secret, in light of what I now know are some people's views?

(pity you can't run several instances of Ryzom at the same time

).
Your computer would explode.
As evident in my sig, I have all five character slots filled. All but one of my characters are in guilds. They have various purposes. From top to bottom: my main, her sister, my Kamist Zoraï, a sort of PNPC (playable nonplayable character) for certain RP events, and a cute little Trykerette for occasional basking in Perofection.
My belief about alts and joining other guilds with alts is that it is alright, because I roleplay each of my characters as a separate individual. Ziritha, for example, is very different from Jelathnia, though they do happen to share some personality traits. But their goals, backgrounds, and lives are totally different and separate. What she knows, Jel does not know, and vice versa.
I could easily have a neutral, a Karavaneer, a Kamist, a Trytonist, and whatever else, simultaneously. I as a
player do not subscribe to any of the in-character cults etc. I doubt there is anyone who does. I mean, when asked their RL religion, does anyone answer "Kamist" or "Karavaneer"? So other than the fact that there are probably unscrupulous individuals who would make opposite-faction alts to gather "intelligence" OOC, there shouldn't be any problem with someone having multiple characters of multiple allegiances if one does not exploit them.
And by the way...hiya Xzahan. ^_^

Have you read any of the "You know you play too much Ryzom when..." threads? ;D

As long as player is straight and honest i don't have any objections to multible characters. Got some experiences about not being so, and in the end it will gnaw trust we have eachother in game.
I've seem couple of "spyes" in my journey in Atys, but that has not been so biggie.
More painfull is put faith on sumone, help him and spare lot of ye time, and see in next day he/she is gone and when doing add friend contacts trick, ye find out he/she's playing sum other char
Couple of those experiences and lil' homin loses all faith to other homins.
My opinion...be straigh with alts and respect each other efforts and kindness toward ye.

I see know issue with playing multiple chars. I have 2 prime alts I have guilded in BM I use to lvl new guildies. They also are a reminder of how much the game as changed since I started my primary. I forsee one day they will out grow there usefulness to lower lvl players and sadly their lives will be recycled to lower chars. I also keep an alt that I play to relax from being GL. I tell ppl who I am that I know and meet ingame but he's never been openly mentioned to my guild. He is unguilded and just away to relax. PeteJ I wasn't aware your alt didn't have access to BM guild forums. We have no secrets from you and I'll have you added to our private forums.-Kilgoretrout
