Jeeez, I´m glad I´m german! :D

Okay, we´ve got a kind of "short-Speak" too, but it´s more like an Accent (Ruhrpott, the Ruhr-District-Slang), some people might find it hard to understand if spoken, but most can read it quite well. IF it is ever used written.
It tends to shorten the Words to their limit, and well... overdo the pronounciation. Also, it packs Words together into a kind of slurred shortword.
For example (Listen to me! = "Hör mir zu!", in Ruhrpott it´s "Hömma zu!")
;)
Some quite good german Sitcoms use it, for it´s "Workers-Class-Image" :D

But well, INGame we sometimes use thx, gz, AFK and BRB too. *shrug*
But not to an extreme extend.

Meh, I disagree. The internet/email/text messaging age has brought forth another new form of communication. Asking people to not use abbreviations is silly. It's like asking someone from the south to not speak with a draw, or asking someone from the ghetto to not speak in ebonics... Leet speak is one thing, and I can see some folks getting annoyed with it, but abbreviations? Come on... You know exactly what they are trying to say, why whine about it?

It goes along with the same principle like this:
It hsa been shown in sutdies taht yuo can misepll evreytihng yuo tpye but it is sitll vrey esay for aynnoe who reads it to inrteupt waht you are trinyg to say.

Personally, I think you are being a little b*tchy and need to just learn to accept it. This form of communication is not going to go away, in fact, as text messaging and handheld emails continue to increase in popularity, this trend will only continue to grow.

Get over it and move on. It isn't going away. Sorry to bring it to you like this, but thats how it is.

[edit]I will note that this form of communication IN GAME in public channels should be filtered. But on the forums? Come on...

Ya know what? Nevermind. As I can see from this post of yours:

Sorry...use of the enter key in your post would have been helpful...
in a thread by a guy who clearly states that he has never posted on a forum before, you are just here to troll and not provide anything else except complaints and whines. Please disreguard my post above as it will obviously go over your head.

I really couldn't understand Simona's post. I probably could've if I felt like taking ten minutes to decipher it. I CAN understand your posts, which are written legibly.

I am a ***** at times, sue me. But I've been holding back from posting something like this for...years. It's bugged me on various forums and in various games, and this forum happens to be where I finally posted about it.

To be honest if I just understood WHY people feel the need to be so lazy in typing their posts and make themselves/their posts sound dumb, I'd probably be bothered less by it. That's the way it is with most things that I find annoying - I don't understand them.

Well, "Huh?" is a fairly trollish type remark to someone that was posting for their first time. The post was readable by anyone that can read the english language, just not nice on the eyes. /cry

I think I explained why people are so "lazy" as you call it. With the introduction of handheld messaging, abbreviating has become the norm. I'm sorry that it bothers you for whatever reason, but I mean seriously, you can understand it. It makes sense. And who really cares if people abbreviate things? Is it causing you some form of physical discomfort? Is it hurting your feelings? Are you simply seeking other people with like minded opinions on the subject to help justify your own opinions?

Personally, I don't automatically assume someone is dumb just because they abbreviate things. I don't assume they are lazy either. They are getting their point across just fine.

Honestly, if I understood WHY people feel the need to make posts about people abbreviating things and make themselves look ignorant/dumb, I'd probably be bothered less by it... but I doubt it.

I was careful not to say people who use shorthand ARE lazy/dumb. I said it makes them SOUND lazy/dumb.

Hmm, maybe that's why people don't care how they word their posts. It doesn't matter because other people will read posts however they want.

Fair enough. And I'm just a bit cranky today. Mondays suck. Sorry for the hostility, I'm a forum troll at heart though... :p

Heh, sorry too...I have a lot of pent-up (well...not anymore :( ) aggression lately because I've been sick and (more) depressed (than usual) for weeks.

My problem isn't MMORPG addiction...it's forum addiction. XD

I feel your pain. My job tends to be slack/slow enough to allow me to sit here all day and post away on forums, which I do.. ALOT. It's not good for me of that I am certain, but meh... whatchagonnado ya know?
