Oddly enough I'm gonna agree with Rushin. Conflict is good. The thing is that the implementation hasn't been the best. Open conflict can breed hate. Specific "war fronts" would be better as was mentioned. We got used to the idea of the Umbra PR being pvp. But this open season has caused alot of bad feelings.
I don't mind pvp, but I don't like how it has been introduced into the game.

Re: War and Peace
None of the options suit me.
Atys is supposed to be a vibrant, dynamic world with numerous and varied interests vying to own and control pieces of it.
I want to see Atys being affected by our foraging; resources depleted, changed, degraded, new veins discovered.
I want to see flora and fauna populations rising, falling, relocating, depending upon how they are hunted or whether the season is wetter in one region than the next.
I want to see the kitin trying to accomplish something, reacting to homin presence or consolidating areas we've left to them.
I want to see Tribes fighting for outposts.
I want to see the goo spreading and turning Atys' creatures and plants crazy/sick/whatever-it-does until someone can find a way to control it or cure it.
I want to see the Kami and the Karavan going about some mysterious interest so that we can at least puzzle about their intentions because at the moment it's quite plain to me that neither are anything more than voyeurs, slopping the fishbowl once every few cycles.
If the Kami and Karavan showed any intent or influence then we could choose whether to interfere with it or resist it. That would probably entail PvP and it would be such a little part of life on Atys as we struggle against all the other influences at the same time, trying to balance our priorities.
Ahem, sorry for the rant I don't want much, do I?

OOC:
I want the option for conflict but for people to use diplomatic means to avoid it where possible. I want people to be unafraid to resort to it though should the need arise. I want consequences for actions. I want battles to mean something rather than just be an ingame sport. I'd prefer a civilisation war over a kult one. I'd prefer GvG and Alliance vs. Alliance over FvF.
I'd have liked the faction split to be there from launch or for our peaceful coexistence for over a RL year to have actually affected the story. I'd like Trytonism to be a realistic 3rd option. I'd prefer a constant battle with the kitin, with towns/tp's getting destroyed and having to be retaken and rebuilt with the option to help or hinder your rivals.
TBH the temple event was done well and gave some justification for faction fighting. I had a lot of fun digging, chopping and healing, watching the progress bars and exchanging good-natured banter with whoever the opposition was that week. In the rare moments when I wasn't having a great time I knew it would be over eventually and that the 'new-lands' were still around and the old-lands soon forgotten.
Despite all this, I'm looking forward to Spires and perhaps being able to add some of what I think is missing through making R2 scenarios. Maybe I need to make a Zorai char and give in to the not-so-subtle Nevrax persuasions that I should go around killing Jenites.
Er, what was the question again?

PvP as part of events, furthering the storyline is fine.
PvP as a substitute for storyline, is lame.
if people want to challenge each other, and work on their tactical skills, ( even if those skills are sneaking up on diggers ) then thats between the participants, who are wearing their tags, and presumably all good.
The marginalization and exclusion from content of non-PvP participants, neutrals, whatever.. may make life easier for the devs, but it doesnt make the game a better or richer world.
I said this for Outposts, and it applies even more to PvP in its entirety
I want it to be a facet of the world, not its focus.

OOC: Absolutely not, very well said. Many of these things were in the original documentation, interviews and lore. I think Nevrax's teetering on the edge moneywise may have held much of this up and I can only hope to see this with all of you that have been along for the ride.jamela wrote:None of the options suit me.

Non-Karavan have no idea how hard DT works behind the scenes to play IC AND not push things into an area I don't like anymore than anyone else. There needs to be conflict or we really have a single player game with other peeps around.
Conflict should mean something, this is where we have a problem as Rushin and Kostika mentioned already. PvP/GvG/FvF has to mean something, it currently is limited by mechanics to mostly FvF because you cannot dictate terms of the conflict.
Should there be content that can only be accessed via PvP of some sort ? DEFINATELY, of the highest level in the game ! Should there also be high level content available only by attacking Uber Mobs, solving puzzles & even diplomacy (or all 3 together)... DEFINATELY. An uber mob is not just a mob with dopey guards you can fool or ignore with lots of HP. They need to be well thought out and have something that makes them uber, HP aint it.
We have been so impressed by the limited morsel of a few Outpost's, the rare invasion, Atys Idol, mysterious killers and Yuboball (Not the CSR teams fault, they are doing what they can to keep us busy while they, like us, surely wait on "the beef")... we lost sight of all the things Jamela pulled from the game box, game development info and lore.
We are long past hearing from the Dev's on the real stuff... we get tossed a bone now and again to help us forget the meat that Jamela brought up.
Under Consideration (Long Term)

Now In Test (Short Term)
These (NOTHING COMING SOON) are the items from "In Development" that have been decided to put in test.
Hmmm... Jamela, it don't look good !
I am not going anywhere soon, but to be honest... It's you folks that make me wanna stay... my guildies who back DT's role and impress me daily (and keep returning to Atys), allies that I trust explicitly... and those not following the ways of Jena who DT is so easy to rile up /OOC
I will fight to the last man to be the one standing when my beautiful goddess Jena returns to Atys to find those worthy...
I WILL NOT FAIL HER !!!

The marginalization and exclusion from content of non-PvP participants, neutrals, whatever..
To be honest, I do not feel marginalized or excluded. I feel more involved than I would as a factioned player/character. I'm enjoying the game as a neutral because I believe we have greater potential for complexity - nothing's preset or prescribed for us.
