Possibly the three-letter word at the beginning. :p Anyway thanks, I think that puts me a step closer to understanding, lol.
In this games case it is a bit hard to say because you can level in about a trillion things.
True...there's about 11,000+ levels total I think...

Feel free to ask any questions you may still have. I am always willing to help those in need. It's because I'm such a nice person.

On a side note, I find it interesting that OP asked a bunch of somewhat negatively charged questions and then does not respond to answers. Oh well, did my good deed of the day +1 as a result.

Hey, give me a chance to get back here - I've been playing :)

It's difficult not to be negative regarding mmogs. They all seem to be a variation on "Oh god, not another kill, loot, level game." Real life does not revolve around killing things and taking their stuff, and it's really quite odd that nearly all online games do. It makes one wonder how many spotty 12 year olds would be scaling clock towers, assault rifle in hand if there were no real consequences in RL. Most online games seem to be populated by sniggering Beavis and Butthead types, and I'd really prefer not to even acknowledge their existence let alone actually interact with them. I've just spent a couple of weeks playing EVE Online, and I swear that the only reason I might have considered staying on was that I would really like to kill all of those twats with stupid names.

A couple of hours on the forums does tend to give Ryzom a bit of a negative spin. It seems that just about anything I consider doing with my character more or less sucks, according to most posters. Ranged combat, for instance. It sure is a pretty game though.

Anyway, thanks for the tips. I had to slap myself for not being able to figure out how to swap what I'm holding in my hand :)

I've been trying to level crafting by making the starter boot pattern, but the 'clothing' material seems hard to come by and consequently my crafting skill seems to be going nowhere slowly. Gathering is going well, but it just doesn't seem to turn up the right materials to make armour. On the nub island I made the mistake of getting another armour pattern with the skill points I got with the starter materials. Once I kill another couple of hundred sucklings for enough materials to get the skill points for another pattern, what's a pattern that doesn't take so many materials? I'm tempted to restart just so I can craft something else right away. I was thinking of getting a pistol and making ammo for it. Most of the ammo components seem to be readily available, but I keep reading on this forum that ranged combat sucks.

I also chose a number of prospecting skills that seem more or less useless so far. I probably should have got some that allow the resource to last longer and produce better materials, or at least stop them from exploding. My little guy is spending a lot of time sitting down.

I still don't have a clue about the 'stanza' stuff.

Maybe Kashius should check when the thread was started next time...

Unfortunately, although my kindness knows no bounds, my knowledge of crafting/digging does. I'm sure others will be able to help you out with that stuff. You've been playing for less than one day and I bet your dig/craft levels are higher than mine.

As far as getting turned off to a skill from forum posts, don't be. If you want to try it, by all means try it. You may have a harder time than those who choose the 'better' or more commonly used skills, but if you enjoy it, then it's worth it, right? It's about time for me to stop typing...my tone has softened to a point where I can no longer stand it. Enjoy yourself on Atys.

Well Let me first say Welcome to Ryzom ;) 2nd it sounds like you have gotten a few lvls in each area, harvesting, fighting/magic, and Crafting, at this point I might recomend perhaps comming to the Mainland perhaps, not sure what lvls you are at now, might still be too early. But in the mainland it would be easier for you to learn what the various skills you picked, the whole 'stanza' thing, and what skills you should pick, as Almost all of us have been there before and understand your problem and are more than willing to help you out. You could also send me a tell in game by typing '/tell Daemion message' with out the ' and with a message of course where message is ;) Duno what timezone your in, but I am typicaly on at about 8pm Mtn, or 3 Am GMT,[im GMT -7]. Sometimes im on early in morning as well, [aprox 5pm GMT, or 10am Mtn]. Ill be happy to help explain the varius little Qirks to the game.

Yeah, and when he offers to take you on a "trek" to get TP Tickets (TelePorter Pacts) take a buddy along to watch your back! :D Not from Daemion, but from all those Agro beasties he keeps running into!

And when someone says "Follow me! I'll get you out of here" make sure you step where they step, stop where they stop, and develop twitchy neck muscles so you can scan the horizon 360 degrees while running...

Seriously, its a great game, and a great community. Most everyone is ready, willing, and able to assist a newcomer in some way. When you get to the mainland, look us up!

Oh, and if a very cute mostly unclad little Tryker lass comes up to you and offers to show you her "safe route to Thesos", ... Well, let's just say be prepared to meet a big ugly face to face somewhere along the way! ;)

For materials, there tend to be areas all the same ... you're just in the wrong spot for clothing.

Stanzas are just parts of spells, try editing a hotkey and you'll see.

When you gain levels, improving stats is never bad ... except in crafting, where you sort of need those points more than most.

Avoid the "prospect for (type of mat)" items at first, they're expensive to use. Oh, and the "prospect for up to fine/choice" items are useful. I'm new, but I think the specific ones will become more valuable later.

Once you reach the mainland, it's easy enough to get somebody to show you a few good spots. For that matter, people will pull up a lot at once for newbies, just look and see what shows up where...

I am one of the posters that believes ranged combat sucks.

I am just over level 150 in both crafting pistols and using them.

Just because it sucks doesn't mean it's not fun ;)

Try the Ultimate Harvesting Guide by Doubletap. It's been the #1 resource on harvesting since Beta, and although there are some outdated things in it (don't wear anything but light armor when digging ;) ) it should still answer about all the questions you have regarding harvesting.

About stanzas: if you lurk around a bit on the Melinoe forum (thats where the Harvesting guide is) I'm pretty sure DT has hidden a tutorial about stanzas somewhere in there as well.

If you have any other questions, the (in here) common saying applies... ask, and you will be answered.
