re toony: an excuse, nothing more, also fails to explain the further existance of the settings and the fact that this algorithm is still used for other cloud effects ingame, but is untouched by the settings. (check the flames of pyr)

acridiel, i'd like to think it was the performance, but there is nothing to indicate that it is. in beta i could run with clouds activated at ~15 frames and without them and almost minimum settings otherwise my max was ~24. from that point onwards the performance of the game has steadily increased to the point that i can run almost max settings and have comfortable 30-40 frames. aside from that they were a completely client-side option and could be switched off if you didn't like them sucking your performance.

also, there is nothing to get over, but a vast discrepancy in actions and words, exemplified by the still existing settings. this is something that should not be gotten over or forgiven, since it's simply lazy programming.
