Simple things like this and making a single noob island would make a new player experience much better. Remove access to "Karavan/Kami" channels and give all the nooblands a common channel ("New Players") of some sort would also help quite a bit.
I believe all of our officers have an alt on noobland and before the event we put a few hours each week into them helping folks when we could. Limited bulk sure makes our options limited....

We can tho nevertheless have voolenters(lol spelling) and u make an application where u explain why u want to help there, welcome and Teach them the principals of the game.
firstly the gudes do frequent the islands offering game help and advice. however they cannot trade or res or help players build foraging actions or show them wher to forage or what to kill or what wepons are good.........................more things inserted here................or help them get better stats when they craft or offer advice on what items to craft ( i think ya get ma point)
i have an alt (not really worked on muc) that is currently producing LA. i found a nice little aplication form to help ppl out on these lands. it was under a button called 'create new charachter' or something.
i.m sure i will start to swear under my breath that i wish i had a packer since LA is about 2x te bulk of the mats that it uses -.-

The Guides/GMS do make it every now and then, but only about 5% of the time that I am there are they also present (I know, because I am constantly doing /who to see who is there and when new folk come on). They welcome and that is about it. They do not really give much practical help in my experience.
I remember a couple times when I was away from the game on vacation and all my mats on the market were timed out and I had to start all over again. Not fun. Need that packer!
I would love it if Ryzom started a mentoring program, where you could apply or qualify in some way, and then have access to a packer, and be officially recognized with that title on newb island - possibly even allow a ML character to go back to the island (although I am not as sure about that one, since you would have to limit what q stuff they brought or could trade, or the money, and they could dig 20+ newb mats a pull, etc.)
Anyway, I wonder if Nevrax is listening to this at all - seeing as how it is to their benefit...
Thanks for listening,
Trip

I too have a character on the newbie island. I use that character to help players with getting decent equipment, and answer questions about how things work. it generally in the first day or two of playing that people will have a lasting impression of the game. I try to do my part to help with the enjoyment of the game so they will stay and add to the atmosphere of atys.
all my craft level are above level 55, and I agree that a packer would be a valuable asset for those that are helping out on the noob ilsand. a lot of my time is spent walking back and forth accros the island because I dont have enough bag bulk.
The few players that make it to the mainland are the onles that are either stubborn, or have muddled thier way through figuring out the game enough to not be frustrated. how many players dont make it that far, because they have become too frustrated? a helpful hand in the begining of the game can go a long ways to help someone through the frustration of having to figure out how customize thier skills, or so they dont die with the first 50 yubos they find
sorry if its seems my thoughsts are a little disjointed, 5 am.

staying almost on topic, Nevrax were asking us about the starter islands and ideas for them what 6 months ago? Can appreciate things are busy but surely increasing the flow of new players by improving/getting rid of the starter area's deserves a bit higher priority?
Havent the new player forum area doesnt cut it, changes have to be made ingame. I know u don't like quick fixes or hacks, but merging all islands together at least until u can think of something better would help.

I have heard this suggested many times and agree wholeheartedly. I do wonder why this has not been done. The only negative thing about it is that I suspect that they would have to just pick one of the existing starter isles, which is fine for that particular race but not so good for the other three. It would be nice if it was a truely new area, perhaps even a prime roots environment to give more of a feel of being a refugee. The other thing I often wonder about is the placid behaviour of the mobs in the starter isle. It makes moving to the mainland a big shock and a number of lessons need to be unlearnt as a result.

hmm, don´t know if packers would really be good, newbies will want to buy them too and then have the problem that they can´t take them to mainland... would be too hard to part with them IMHO
and merging areas, they don´t even have to merge the newbie areas... a simple teleporter or portal which brings u from one area to the next(or a mini PR cave area ) could do the trick
portals would be better for this(else you could save up a TP-ticket till lvl250 and then port back), connecting all the newbie areas together directly or through a new PR area(make it a newbie event to open them, hint hint hint )
so there would be more Homins to meet and help and team up with
