Something needed to be done, and it was done. I even approve of what was done - provided it's not permanent.

Now, more needs to be done. As happened with the banning of Doubletap earlier this year, we've lost the voices of some of our most energetic, intelligent and creative community members and they need to be allowed to speak here again.

As I asked in the "Petition to bring back DT" thread started by Zyros months ago, I'll ask again here... please work this out behind the scenes, privately, with the people who've been silenced, and come to some agreement that allows us to see what they have to say again. They have contributed alot to the roleplaying and other sections of the forums and we'll miss them if they don't come back here.

People, listen, you must not forget. This is private property. Nevrax owns these forums, and as a message was posted on the original thread, a company can do as it wills (ie: make you wear a suit to work). Infact, user accounts are basically "on-loan" from the company. We pay to use their service. I have played many MMOs before and have seen many people get banned one way or another and it turns out to that.

I own a forum community website myself (dedicated to art), where I am the Admin and I have a few moderators under me. If I lay down ground rules, I expect them to be followed as soon as they are instated -- as would anyone. And if someone committed a violation, it was my decision as the owner (or in Xavier's case, Community Laision for Nevrax), whether or not to act. And their decision was theirs since it is THEIR property. I have to admit, it was rather harsh to ban right off the bat, however, they did recieve a warning. It was the first message on the thread and thus fair.

Do you get where I am coming from now?

Well I have checked my email, and havent received a warning yet, so I guess I can still post. And this is something that needs to be talked about.

Things had been improving in the forums over the last few days. The community was recovering from the novelty of the PvP, and from what I saw while I was in there, a lot less people were even bothering to participate in it.
I had even removed the quote from Grimjim I had been using as a sig, in the light of the more upbeat tone on the forums. As an aside, there is no way they could quietly ban Grim, he is too prominent and his absence would be noticed and queried, and all sorts of rumours would start. This way its all out in the open. I dont agree with their action, but its their forum.

Trying to clean up the forums is an admirable idea, but there should be more discrimination in what gets you banned. Personal, racial, religious etc attacks are all valid reasons, but pointing out the game experience has deteriorated should not be. I realise its bad for marketing the game, but so are disappointed and disillusioned players. The negative attitudes on the forums were a reflection of a negative feeling to the new 'content' ( /bows to Grimjim ) and as such, are valid feedback to the Devs etc.
We should have been given reassurance that we were being listened to, that the players who are excluded by the current additions still had something to look forward too, and maybe the forums wouldnt be such a disaster for PR (public relations).
As I said, the atmosphere had been improving, (I attribute this to a growing apathy towards Ep2) but denying anything was wrong and silencing dissent will just poison it all over again.

There is scarcely any worthwhile information on these forums, so I don't know why everyone is so upset. 90% of the game mechanics posts are inaccurate or just flat out wrong. More than that are burried in 2004. If these forums shut down completely, it wouldn't affect the majority of the player base (english speaking at least. I never browse the other forums so I don't know how active they are). In fact, most players probably wouldn't even notice.

There are less than a handfull of Descent threads on the first page, and the few that are there, have little to no response. The only active threads are people complaining about the board/community mods, complaining about the designers, or complaining about PVP. There is even a sticky about how to name your character, which, if really necessary, should be combined into one thread with the forum rules and the troll/flaiming sticky. I come to this forum in hopes of reading about the game, and most days there is not a single informative game thread.

the way i see it is, people who post or make " I am leaving " do so to make sure all their friends know, remember there is alot of different time zones here, so we arent all online @ the same time.

Each thread has a title, so if you do not like " I am leaving " threads, do NOT open them and read them, you make that option, so stop crying about them.
some ppl do have big Ego's, but some are just communicating what they are doing so their friends know.

Isn't this the definition of what it would take to get banned?

People that have valuable input regarding this game have been banned, while this remains.

Makes me feel better about voting "disgraceful."

*shrugs* The people who say they're leaving, in general, inevitably return. Or at least drop by again to see how things are. It's the people who slip out quietly who never come back.

You might know only one or two people. Many of us, however, know a lot of people. Annoucing that we are leaving in the forums (for what ever reason) is just a way to make sure everyone knows that we won't be on anymore. This helps the people who rarely see you anyway understand that they might as well not look for you now.
