Xavier.
Ok, looking at grimjim's post, paragraphs 2 and 3 are nothing but plainly stating his opinion and experience on the current state of things and the possible reprecussions of bad moderation.
I'm assuming you're objecting to the first line where he used sarcasm (and pretty mild sarcasm, in my opinon) to express his dismay.
I'd appreciate more clarification on what you're banning for at this point.

While this question wasn't directed at me, I would guess that they're basing it on the points covered
here, and more specifically everything
here (the link to the policies in the first thread is old, use the 2nd one in this post).
I would guess that the main things that are being enforced more strictly now are:
* Please remember the golden rule: To treat other forum users the way you would like to be treated yourself. Please use common courtesy, and enjoy using the official Saga Of Ryzom message boards.
Try to assume an attitude of mutual respect, listening, and learning
* Do not flame or insult another user; such messages will always be edited out and are subject to deletion. Out of courtesy to other users, do not post random off-topic messages, especially in any given thread.
and especially
* You should be clear, civilized and polite.

I didn't find that his post violated any of those things. That's what's confusing me.

Yes there are valid points in what Jyudas said. However the manner in which he went about saying it wasnt particularly PC especially due to what the original post stated. Jyudas started off with a personal attack

this is kinda bad form especially when xavier had just said...
Xavier wrote:As you may have noticed, we have tried to keep our moderation to the bare minimum until now, only closing threads when personal attacks started to show up and using the 'ban' button very rarely.

I feel that's pretty debatable though. Questioning whether someone really thought something through is not a personal attack and it seems like that's what grim was doing. Because he used sarcasm to do it, doesn't make it a personal attack. Sarcasm doesn't inherently make something a personal attack.

This confuses me. I've had personal attacks directed at me in game and I've had clear rules of conduct violations against me in the past with no action taken.

This only looks like some individuals were targeted

So, we'll start enforcing netiquette rules more closely. Flames threads will be closed more early, and flamers/trolls will be banned from the forum for an unspecified amount of time if they keep behaving this way.
They are now starting to enforce the rules more closely. That's in order to change what has been happening up until now
