Your solution would leave the Kami diggers with no role. I think that the rationales could have been much better done. For instance, suppose that the Kamis wanted to continue blasting the Karavan diggers but the Karavan was able to deploy a shield for their harvesters in a limited area of the ancient lands. Then, having failed their original plan, the Kamis decide to build a sanctuaries that will counter the evil Karavan powers and keep their ominous space fleets at bay. Since the Karavan is already destroying this area, they extort their Kamist diggers to outdig the Karavaneers in the same ancient lands.
