No, if you want that you can just go play Counterstrike. Don't need a MMO for that. The point of a MMO is first and foremost to play WITH other players, something Ryzom seemed to grasp at first with the RAID engine but has apparently lost sight of.

Oh, and by the way you didn't notice that I was there digging shells next to you a good part of last night. I also did some healing during fights. The ganking hasn't yet gotten so bad that I"m not enjoying it, I'm critiquing though what is a bad choice by Nevrax just as I warned back in the day that Patch 1 would drive away players.

Ryzom isn't so far along that it should be catering to a sub-element like PvPers. They really need to focus on developing things that will draw back old players and grow the game. They need to look at the original and unimplemented selling points first. Raids, Outposts, Rites, Fame system, dynamic world.

The idea behind this whole event is to build your shrine, gain honor to recieve rewards, and keep the others from building theirs?

Have you all not seen the great things this has done for us? Former guilds that hated each other/kept to themselves have joined hand-in-hand to dig, fight, or craft! (Also, you don't go inside the PvP zone to craft, so you dont have to get nuked doin that, and you can still help.....so you guys even at low levels can keep crankin out the parts :) )

From personal experience, Infinity and the other Kami guild RARELY get along. Yet as soon as we all stepped into that zone, ON and Infinity, Samsara, Clan Omnis, and all those who may have not gotten along were defending diggers, rezzing fallen kami comrades, and joining groups to help out....I think this has been a GREAT thing for the game. Instead of saying you're being forced into a PvP zone...think of it as a more dangerous dig zone! You don't have to nuke back, but those red dots are agro mobs, just like a kincher.

I vote that this is great!

We had no choice.

If I'm going to be made to PvP I'd have liked it more, frankly, if I could have stabbed some of the people on my own side in the back. TBH there's more people there that I'd rather kill, especially when they nuke defenceless harvesters. :P

HHello Lil :D

Just a tongue in cheek :) I agree, nothing serious to add here, but but... your post reminded me of politics and one sided journalism :D

you forgot "defending diggers, rezzing fallen kami comrades, and joining groups to help out, attacking enemy diggers, killing standing karavan foes, and joining groups to undermine the Karvan efforts" :D -- Do you work for CNN? :p

love,

Hehe you're so right here Anissa ;)
Nonetheless, I got exactly the same feeling as Lillaryn on that point...
Many things are criticizable (esp. the honor points calculation), but what helps me enjoying all this mess is that it tightened relationship between homins of the same camp.

Not true, the temple _is_ in a PvP zone, it isn't in the new PvP area/island. So you can get attacked while there, or leaveing the area.
Heck you can even be attacked while spawning at a tp, and so far the PvP crowd have been mature enough to not camp them.

What about the chill in the air that hase popped up between guilds of opposite camps?

I'm in two minds about this.

I agree that the lore, background and play up to this point has been cooperative, coming from a time of peace, cooperation and the aftermath of a great defeat.

Most of the players took that on board and played in that way.

Now we're being pushed into war. The implementation of the story is hideous, inconsistent and doesn't make any sense in the context presented, but its clear that's the story that Nevrax want to tell, despite actions of homin in game and, IIRC, the German serveris even more anti this than we are.

That said... what's worse for a story of war and conflict? Everyone killing each other in war and then being chums again immediately afterwards as though nothing had happened? Or tension and hatred and the 'chill'?

I would have to argee with you that from an rp point of view killing each other one moment then having a brew together the next would be bad hower I'm also concerned about the effect this event has had on the community that has excited prior to all of this war mongering.

I have lived through a faction war in AO and it grew very old very fast not to mention the fact it grew to be very personal aswel for some people resulting in insults and revenge killings.
As much as I would like to look at this war solely as a roleplay event, I can't. Ryzom does not support the strategic elements neccesary to make for an interesting war, for that a fps style of game would be much more suited (think tribes/tribes 2 or if it must be MMO, Planetside would do as it is a tribes rip off)
Personally I think breaking up the community the way this event has done is something that should have been prevented at all cost even if it meant deviating from the storyline nevrax had planned.
