At the current moment, many are hanging around the warzone. Therefore a bit empty in town I think.

I do take some missions, both for the extra income since I'm gonna meet gingos just peeping out from Yrkanis and for the skight change in fame. There are no real storylines in the quests as far as I know.

Skills should not be a big prob in the game, just temporarily in the start. Some people have 1000's of unspent skillpoints in the higher levels. There is (correct me if I'm wrong) 11450 skill levels, so if you have the time you can learn by trial and error...

Ah, so you're saying that eventually I can get all the skills, stanzas, whatevers that are possible? If so, that's a relief. I doubt I'd ever get them all, but being able to change tracks is nice.

The lack of quest storylines is a bit disconcerting, for me. Some of the best times I've had in other games were very quest storyline related. How do these things happen in SoR? Where hides the content, if not in quests?

For instance, a quest to me would be: "Dispatch Grimgor the Nasty and bring me his head as proof. I don't know where he is, but if you talk with Lt. Shinysword, he might be able to help you on your way." And that leads you on a whole series of quest parts, where you meet different NPCs who give you further clues, or request you do things for them before they'll give you a clue, etc. etc. Maybe you end up fighting Grimgor's brother, who finally gives up the hideout location in trade for you not killing him (which you might do anyway, if you're nasty.) And, well... you get the point.

Skills: I sure hope so. I think the skillbased system is awesome.

Content: I get the point. A typical quest, I think the designers however thought of a bit more 'realistic' way of dealing with mission. I guess Grimgor have but one head to deliver, in a multiplayer game he would lose it over and over and o...

Ryzom's missions isn't giving you much of storylines. The Encyclopedia gives you knowledge of the planet though. Instead the content is sometimes provided by GM's producing events like kitin invasions and stuff, players making events, and the planet itself. I really enjoy trying to figure out how the animals behave, and when if I get around to digging/crafting I think there's a goldmine in content figuring out what gives what and when to dig.

Well I'm pretty new too so I don't really know. Just about 2 months into the game myself. Welcome to Ryzom!

Hmmmm. Not promising... for me, at least. I've played a few characters to "mainland" mode. The main cities seem sooo... empty. I mean, there are tons of NPCs but, they aren't there for any real purpose that I can tell. There's the usual merchants to be sure, and the trainer's. I couldn't find any "leaders". No true quest givers, except for the standard "kill x" and "gather y", but we've been through that. It's a big world. A world with little direction to answer the question: What do I do next?

And the big world. What's with the artificial boundaries? There were tons of places that looked like I should be able to get to, only to run into some invisible wall. That really takes the realism out of things. I should be able to run off a dock and jump in the water. I certainly should be able to jump off a 1 meter high bank into the water.

A gorgeous game, they just need to make things to do in it. All the new "stuff" I read about seems to be just for high level folks. It'll take months of grinding to get there. And that new stuff just sounds like a grind too.

I tried to imagine what content I as a player could make for others, and I came up kind of empty. It's not like I can build a cave system somewhere, populate it with creatures and some boss with a reward. The ring thing sounds promising in that regard, but that's a ways off.

Don't get me wrong though, I don't feel cheated. I got my $15 of fun, and I'll probably log on for the rest of my month's subscription -- hoping to find something to hang on to. But, I'm really having trouble finding the "depth" folks keep talking about. It just seems like a game that has all its mechanics created and ready for the content creators to start working.

What the heck am I missing, or is this just not for me (doesn't make it wrong or bad -- there're plenty of popular games that I find boring. :) )

I'm Vixen ingame.(Fyros because my pc likes the desert :) But none the less i like my choice.I grew up playing D&D in the 70's and threw to my late 20's.Avid Video gamer.Used to take from my paper route money to put quarters in all the machines and beat the newest games out there. My first experience w/ online games with multiples of players was EQ on the PS2.
I came to this game w/ a preconcieved notion that there were epic quests and such.Nope :( But what i found was way past my best expectations. This is truely a living world. The flora and fauna migrate w/ the season changes. It rains and snows regularly. We have storms. The trick is,that this is multiplayer game and to get most out of it need to be in a team. The larger the team the more your options expand. There are epic quests.Though there not given by any NPC's,there are places and Bosses littered throughout Atys.It becomes an epic battle or quest when there is somewhere you would like to go.Prime roots are eerie dangerous places w/ many Kitin hives that are epic battles in their own rite to get in them. Many lower lvl Boss mobs are around at different times of the year(meaning an Atys year)
Content is an overrated idea that it should be provided for you.Personally that makes a game stale to me.(Go to A then B achieve GOAL return to A),but when there are Guild sponsered Gladiator events, Fasion Shows, and treks throughout the different lands it gets a little more alive.Never quite know what to expect to happen next.
The EXCITING things happen when u least expect them!
(IC)"what a nice day out Uli."
Uli "why yes it is ,but something is amiss."
"WHAT is that coming over the hill and where did the Timmies go?"
Uli "RUN for it !!!"
"I've never seen so many kitin in all my days!"
That was the begining of the Kitin Invasion. The best experience in any game i have ever played.I will remember it forever. When the event team finally work the bugs out of the RAID engine (which from the cuthroat invasion seems they are)more mass scale happenings will ocure. If you have never witnessed an Invasion of the scale Ryzom does it it alone is worth waiting around for.
The community is the best of all the games I have played and currently play.It is an older crowd here most in their 20's and up,mature(for the most part) :) With you joining the game now it seems there is no one around. There here, there and everywhere.Big planet. And most are currently working on Temples to their respective Deities.Which in a short time u can achieve lvl 40 in harvesting and participate in the building yourself(or crafting)
You for the most part have to explore the planet for your epic quests. There are many people here who are adept at RP who are allways up for a journey of some great importance to some Aggro infested part of the world just for kicks :) Once you become familiar w/ your suroundings all the doors of possibility will open up for you just as in real life.

Enjoy,
Life is not meant to be rushed.
Nor is life here on Atys, some days are casual and others are bustling w/ excitement.Take a load off, tell a story of your heroing battles w/ the ever cunning Yubo.Tell a joke,or offer yourself to the Gods and prepare for battle.
