My first post here. Hi, all.

I wouldn't worry much about high level crafters swooping in on lower level orders, in most games that just doesn't happen, there's little to no XP or profit in it. There's more threat to the low level crafters finding a market when there are no caps on what lower level fighters or mages can wear. When money flows easily you will see a lot of level 20-30 characters running around in level 70-80 gear.

And a lvl 70 crafter won't have a stash of q20 mats, just like a lvl 30 crafter won't have much q10 mats.

If there is some danger here it doesn't comes from highlvl crafters, but from other players reselling their old equipment. The best crafters don't have that problem, since there is noone above them who could sell players equipment, the less advanced crafters on the other hand, are strongly effected by this 2nd hand market.


I saw someone on Fyros selling some 'used' medium armor q50 for 75k...


Is it jsut me, or is that the dumbest thing?


Players buy new equipmen for the sole reason taht i will last them a few days to a week, buying used armo ror weapons shortens that, and you woudl be better off paying 20k more to get a new weapon with possibly better stats.



Reselling equipment = wrong... plain and simple.

It's not so much a matter of people swooping in on noobie orders, as it is players looking for better equipment. It takes more crafting levels to produce items of a certain Q, than it takdes for the basic combat type to need them.

To make a really good Q40 item, you need to be at least level 50 and you have to be level 60 to make that item perfectly without a chance to mess it up.

A combat type who is level 30 will problby want that Q40 weapon so he has a bit of room to grow into it. So you have a level 30 melee fighter, wanting a weapon produced by a level 60 crafter.

Interesting discussion here and I agree with what Kisedd said, guild sponsored crafters can easily corner the market. But then the whole game has a certain focus on guilds and the crafting system might reflect that. Personally I think it's just an unbalanced crafting system but that is another topic, hehe. As long as a crafter has enough materials of the right level he/she can level up at an incredible pace.

As far as I remember from open beta one can be level 50 crafter in just 2 or 3 hours of playing when one has a good supply of materials. With that in mind I expect that Ryzom will not have an ecocomy or a crafter market at all but will be a game where the guild supplies you with your gear and in return you supply the guild with raw resources. I fully expect that in two or three months 90% of all harvested and/or quartered raw materials and crafted items will be exchanged between guild members for free - thus I think Ryzom will not have any kind of economy at all.

I dont think that the crafting system and the way the economy *could* develop can harm anyones playing style. A large number of people is driven to SoR because for once you can be completely independent as a single player.

And the ones (like myself) who play it slow and find their pride and joy in crafting every piece of equipment themselves dont care if anyone "corners the market". Even if resold mats would be available on a large scale most dedicated crafters/harvesters would still harvest most of the mats themselfes simply to raise their skill.

But I would gladly buy the odd mat frome a resell-vendor for a piece of equipment if i need a certain color ;)

There is one problem with this: Past lvl 70 you HAVE to sell items to other players in order to have money to buy mats to lvl your skill. It is simply not possible to supply yourself with enough mats lvl your crafting skill as fast as magic or fight. Unless, of cource, you want to use 90% of your time to forage and 10% to advance magic/fight.

Independancy is nice and well, but at the higher lvls you have to specialize.

If thats true then the game is doomed.

I'd like to pose a somewhat newb question - crafted items decay? I haven't seen such evidence in my own armor or crafted weapons...

To me, decay implies a diminishment over time. All I've seen so far is degradation of the crafted item by physical damage.

If a crafted item truely does decay over time, then crafted items in one's inventory, or jewelry worn, will eventually disappear..

So is there decay over time (DOT) or degradation by damage (DBD) ?

Let's make it simple.


The more you use your equipment, the mroe damage it takes.. hence, its hitpoitns lower.

On weapons, if it hits 1 hitpoint, teh weapon wont break, but will become 'un-useable' and you wont gain exp by using it any longer.

If its armor or jewlery, and it hits 1 hp, the item will dissappear.

It's degradation by damage (DBD).

For armor, at least. Jewels never get damaged so far and weapons get damage by useage. Magic amplifiers only if you accidently use them in melee combat, though (sometimes by casting as well, but that seem more like a bug because it effect armor (without getting hit) then, too)
