I am inclined to guess that you are on the slowest of NTL's broadband package? I am on 3mbit with them and it can take an age to teleport sometimes, I couldn't comment whether there is any difference at peak times or not.

My experience so far is that NTL and Ryzom don't really like each other that well (there seem to be other issues with elements of the game) but I can play the game so I live with the delays when teleporting and also lagging when I first land in a town.

I did make it slightly better after a suggestion to move all my screenshots from the ryzom directory and I have also noticed that a second account on another machine which shares the net connection doesn't experience such a long delay. This machine is relatively new and does not suffer from all the surplus junk temp files etc which windows loves to collect. Maybe if you cleared out your internet cache, temp files etc it would help to improve things.

I have the same issue.

It only just started though. For a year I've played the game with my own share of horrid problems, mostly hardware related. But this one, this one is new. It takes me about ~three attempts to log in. The bar looks like its going well and then BOOM last image just halts.

I'm almost totally sure nothing has changed with my computer. As I can eventually log in I haven't worried too much about it.

It may be an issue with my cable company... I'll try some of the listed things here.

Just thought I would back you up, Mark... even if it isn't of much help. If, by some odd chance, I figure something out, I'll drop a line.

Thanks for the comments - have moved to lowest res poss and monitor when I log on, now usually make it 1st , 2nd or 3rd time - but I stop after 3 as it will ont work - its is a bit better if I stay off peak times.

On 2mb NTL - got through to there "support" desk - very polite but as I have email and web access and they say they allow all games to play - noo joy - they will do onthing - so its a case of live with it :)

The main problem is I am not sure if I will be able to do any / many events as they usuall occur at peak times (or the middel of the night)

Will keep you posted - good and bad - this is a real problem - which I hope you get to the bottom of - my feeling is its timeouts - or updates?

Mark - (the game ryzom is great - I enjoy it - logging on is a pain :)

mhh i started getting the same issues since last saturday... so far, none of the hints here seem to have helped. it *is* kind of frustrating.

i tried that ping plotter, no packet loss at all, tracerouting and pinging from my router and my box all seem to go fine. what i did notice is this: ryzom seems not to open this udp port at all: whenever i check the open ports with netstat -na, there's no udp:47851 in the listing as there ought to be.

the only way i was able to log on today was when i lowered all the details and created a new character -- but even that doesn't work anymore... :/

i might try to reboot into linux and see if the game works there but... owel *shrugs*

well, i tried fiddling around a little more with my router and there's no changes whatsoever... i prioritised all the traffic from the 213.208.119.0/24 subnet, and even forwarded anything that comes in from any of the mentioned ports to my box (except connections from the outside to port 80, which i can't forward to my box b/c i got an http test server that needs to be world-accessible). guys, any hints? i wasn't able to log on today at all, everything works like a charm till the last triangle in the loading screen should fill up and then the game ceases to do anything...

ryzom seems not to listen on any of these ports at all... maybe it's windows xp sp2, but i disabled the firewall so it's getting mighty odd...

close all programs that might use internet and ssh to your router and run tcpdump:

tcpdump -ni eth0 not port 22
(eth0 - change it to client side and/or internet side one
not port 22 - when you using ssh and listening client side trafic, you may want to include this rule)

i'm running linux as router and only using basic NAT+firewall (block all incoming from internet side) setup. ryzom works fine. winxpsp2 firewall should not give you any problems (with default settings anyway).

and then, theres such thing as freecap you may try (you gonna need proxy running at your router, squid is fine if you setup it correctly)

Did you upgrade your video drivers lately? We have found that folks using the older nVidia cards and the latest drivers have this issue. Also using older drivers will cause the same problem.

i fear i can't do that as my router is running a modified, embedded version of freebsd (m0n0wall), which doesn't include tcpdump. it does, however, include a tool to list all the NATed connections that go through bsd's ipfwd -- there's exactly one connection from my box to the server (along with 2 port 80 connections to another nevrax server). so far so good, the only thing that's irritating is that this connection stays alive even if i kill the client, and there's data going thru it to my box, which, i assume, is a good thing in this case.

well, everything worked with exactly the same setup until just recently when i upgraded winxp to sp2 as my new digital satellite receiver card insinsted on sp2. i think then the game started lagging and it wouldn't let me log in (or out) on some occasions and the game stalled in "probing"-mode after some teleports.

yes, i saw that post and even though i already had the mentioned 71.89 and according to nvidia there hadn't been any changes for my card, i did a clean update to the newest version (including the part on removing the old drivers, rebooting and then installing the new ones...)

----

i will try to get it running on linux (using vanilla wine), maybe it is xp's sp2 after all (wouldn't surprise me to be honest...)
