Its part of the whole Elias thing mebbe
lore says that young trykers play with the corsairs, and then outgrow them in later years
kinda like how young people are more liberal, and become conservative in older age, mostly cause they get comfortable in routine and would hate for anything to change

Lets face it you might as well be Kami aligned because the Kami are going to crush the Karavan in a big ol' religious war

so the "spiritualist" shapechangers will destroy the people who came here to help us, and their fanatical followers dont even bother about who else will suffer in the crossfire.
