Hello,

Sorry for the late answer, I was abroad this weekend. I'll be short and concise: I can't afford the dagger for several reasons, the main being that I was approached by a friend right after I was outbid who offered me the same item, which I bought immediately.

I'm sorry this happened. It is with actions like this that a completely valid and useful auction system can turn into something we don't want/need.

Also, although I really can't buy the dagger because I bought two of them leaving me virtually almost dapperless, there is another issue to raise and discuss here: in this particular auction, my first bid was of 15M. I was later outbid by Audrey. In my opinion, the whole auction history needs to be taken into account. If Audrey steps back, imho all her bids are invalidated -in other words, hadn't audrey bid at all, I might have got it at 15M-. In this example, my bid was raised to 45M due to Audrey's bids.

Don't get me wrong, my point is that these aspect needs to be taken into account when definind or extending auction bids

Don't know if this would work, but how about doing these auctions in-game? Use the boards to set up a time and place, as well as take sign-ups of interested parties. One could then try conducting the auction a little like a real life one: Start the bidding, someone claims the start price (or not), increment/decrement the bid and wait for any takers etc. until a winner emerges. The more personal nature of doing things this way may be enough to deter any timewasters as the consequences for false bidding would be immediate, and it may be easier to get the bidding back on track even if such an event *does* happen; provided the auctioneer acts in time.

There's all sorts of problems with this, I know. It's just an idea I had in the air soon after my own first auction ended in heartache.

Besides that, I think anyone can set their own rules for the auctions they stage, and develop them from their own experiences and that of others if they choose. If people want to bar certain people from bidding on their items then so be it. All they need to do is take the responsibility of keeping bidders informed so as to avoid frustration from all concerned.

argghh 3 threads, so i'll just post on this one :)

link ingame money to this forum. not for everyone to see but it could be behind the scenes and take updates from server every so often. then two problems are solved: 1) ppl can only bid if they can afford it, and 2) the money can be debited to seller after auction closes.

only problem is goods not arriving as specified/at all i suppose and um i don't have an answer for that ;(

Perhaps the punishment for non-paying bidders should be, You can't PK anyone in Prime Roots for at least 2 weeks......Anyway 500K for the Dagger

Would do nothing to discourage those who don't PK at all ...

You can in all likelyhood contruct HTML formating which can fool the system, unless the CSR or Nevrax takes an active part in the auctions (I have written about the downside to this elsewhere).

kibsword wrote:So what can we do about this? Should the community pull together and make some sort of list of people who arnt allowed to vote on auctions because of things like this? I am not calling for any of the people involved in this incident to be banned, but I am just listing it as an option for the future.

Another option could be that the community as a whole pulls together and makes sure the winning bidder pays in some way. Even if they have to pay it off over time or loan money from someone.

Either way I think we need extra bidding rules to prevent this from occuring in the future. For example when the sniper rule was introduced to prevent last minute bidding.
Some have complained about lack of consequences from actions performed by homins ...

Seriously though, a blacklist will be too much I think. It will be close to the PK list proposed in another matter.
If someone wants to prevent someone from participating in an action, simply list those homins in part of the rules.
A bit simplified way, is to have the rules of the auction spelled out (as it is now), what ever those rules might be, and have the bidders agree to those rules when perform a/the first bid. This of course doesn't do anything about enforceing what is done, but at least the "contract" was agreed upon by both sides.
As we have seen already, those auction rules that works gets copied into the next auction, so it shouldn't take a lot to make some additional rules which should help in this matter.

You can always hire merchenaries to deal with any problem that may arise. ;)
