it's ctrl + up/down arrows to cycle previous chat messages.. and pretty sure /g /t /a prefix for guild/team/around isnt it?

Its deffinately Shift + up/down Arrows on mine , maybe depends on your configuration ,keyboard or something ? -try both ;)

Ah its in the KEYS menu (press K) under "EDIT KEYS" mine is :-

Previous line SHIFT+UP

One of the first things I did with keymappings was move the movement controls from the cursor keys to the 'wasd' keys. This had the nice side-effect of freeing the up/down/left/right mappings. So what I did was change all of the various chat controls to be more like a typical text editor. So instead of having to do shift+left/right to move the cursor, I can just press left/right. Likewise, to cycle through previous chat messages, I can just press up/down instead of shift+up/down.

I also changed all of the various edit mappings (shift+left/right to highlight text, ctrl+left/right to move the cursor to the next word, etc.).

As soon as I did this, the chat became far easier for me to use because it now used all the same key shortcuts that most text editors use.

IIRC, talking in around chat is /s (for say or speak) - although, it's quite possible I don't RC :) Or is /s for shout?

At least, please, introduce some shortcut like /te for team message, /gu for guild message and /re for region.
Heh, those are the shortcuts. And not only do they work, you can also do something like,

/te <ENTER>

anything you type now is in team

/re <ENTER>

anything you type now is in region

/say <ENTER>

anything you type now is in around.

Only thing with that is (not sure if this is a bug or not), the dropdown doesn't switch to the proper channel you're on. You just have to remember which channel you switched to last.

Words of advice here, if you're not on the User tab, you should be ;)

One thing they could also improve on is change the default keys for windows opening and closing to Ctrl Key or Alt Key or something, because one thing I hate (and I still do this a lot) is to start typing without hitting ENTER first (or it failed to register because of lag) and end up closing all my windows! That's frickin annoying.

Eheh I've remapped all the 'open window shortcut' to CTRL something just to avoid this :-)

I'd have to say it's MORE annoying to OPEN 12 new windows and not be able to see what the heck your toon is doing through the cluttered screen :p

Particuarly if you hit the wrong key because you were typing fast to warn people of some danger and now you can't see to avoid it yourself. ;)

(I have clean desktops saved to the F2-F4 keys, but for some reason I never think to use them when said situation arises  )

This happens to me a lot. I've gotten very good at recovering from it though by just re-typing whatever I typed. Like let's say I'm about to type "oh no, raku just got me killed again" and i get as far as "oh no ra" before i realize i'm not in chat. All of the sudden, a bunch of windows have opened and closed. If I just quickly type "oh no ra" again, everything is back where i started.
