Question about the 14 days trial...

Re: Question about the 14 days trial...
Unfortunately, that's exactly what small print is intended for The thinking is that people don't read the small print enough, and hence can be caught out by annoying but completely honest sales ploys (i.e. needing to cancel a trial account).
It makes sense to remember this - no free trial is actually free, unless you're very careful about what you're doing
Same idea with the CD or Book club companies - they send you the offer every month, if you don't want it just send it back within 2 weeks. Except, they want you to open it and think "hmm, well it's OK I guess - I'll have another listen soon". Before you know it, 2 weeks are up, and you have an invoice for a CD you don't really want - to top it off, you listen again and it's rubbish.
Welcome to the (dark and evil) world of sales

Re: Question about the 14 days trial...
First time I've encountered this with an online RPG. Says something about the people behind Ryzom in my opinion. Definitely now I wont ever consider playing this game again. Not even if I get bored of WoW. I have nothing but negativity towards Ryzom because of my experience.dazman76 wrote:Unfortunately, that's exactly what small print is intended for The thinking is that people don't read the small print enough, and hence can be caught out by annoying but completely honest sales ploys (i.e. needing to cancel a trial account).
Does it say anything about the continuing subscription anywhere else but in the email they sent me? I can't believe I've missed something like that if it was told during registration.
Edit: I checked and it does indeed say so when they ask for my credit card number. Still.... This is the first time I've encountered anything like this and I guess I can only blame myself for being too trusting. At least I've learnt something of this evil world and hopefully wont make the same mistake again.

I might not have the widest experience ever, but all the trials I've ever looked at have always said that *you* have to cancel it on your own.elina wrote:First time I've encountered this with an online RPG.
Re: Question about the 14 days trial...
Every mmo I've played has had a condition like this. City of Heros, Anarchy Online, and Phantasy Star all have similar conditions.elina wrote:Edit: I checked and it does indeed say so when they ask for my credit card number. Still.... I'm sorry you feel "Duped", but if you don't read everything then you don't know what is happening or what you are agreeing to - and this is one of the biggest problems in the world (ppl not understanding what's happening).
Hope it get's sorted out though.
Re: Question about the 14 days trial...
You should also stop calling it a free trial, cuz it ain't, it costs 1Euro :S

I replied before and removed it as it just pointed out what you already knew.
If this is the first time you have encounted 'free trail' -> leads to a subscription if not cancelled, it seems to me that you haven't had much experience of 'free trials'.
The company offers the consumer a trial period of its product. You are obligated to read all the text that comes with that offer. You are entering a contract, you are agreeing to the terms and conditions which are presented to you. Its up to you to make yourself aware of all the information provided.
If you choose not to make yourself aware of that agreement, its down to you. There is nothing hidden in the contract, you stated yourself that you didn't read the text that was in the mail you received.
Keeping it simple, you didn't read the contract you were entering. Now your saying its the companies fault that you were charged, where as in fact they provided you with the service you requested and charged you accordingly.

Yes, thank you. It has already been established that this is my own fault.borg9 wrote:

Re: Question about the 14 days trial...
It is a Free Trial. Yet another case of not reading what it says I think; the 1£/$/ is a test charge. It is refunded immediately to your account.winky28 wrote:You should also stop calling it a free trial, cuz it ain't, it costs 1Euro :S
Re: Question about the 14 days trial...
Well you also get (got) a e-mail 3-4 days in advance, reminding you of the imminent charge on your credit card, yes it sucks that you didnt like the game, but you did agree to it after all.
