Well i'm still kinda new to ryzom... but i didn't get this:
"The only safe zones for them would then be near the town guards, who would attack enemies on sight."
Let's say a Fyro is pro-Kami and another Fryo is pro-karvakan - let's say both Fyros are near their home-town, does that mean they are both safe in their towns? so they can just pvp inside the town w/o guards doing anything?
If i'm in any way wrong ecxuse me, i've only started ryzom 3 days ago and haven't played that much ;p just curious.
Letter from the PvP Strike Team
Re: Letter from the PvP Strike Team
"as for instance being endlessly harassed by a bunch of neurotic players who just have sworn your downfall"
HAhahaaha I love it!
I would love to see people owned by guards when they enter an opposing faction/race town. Tribes and wandering people really need to KoS alot more often, as well as assist more often. How happy would you be if you were rezzed by one of those harvester groups wandering around?
Oops, that might be a little too much to hope for at this point, but having the declaration of war actually mean something... sounds like a wonderful idea.

Re: Letter from the PvP Strike Team
i might be wrong, but outpost is just a small area where 2 guilds can make their little war, but Guild vs Guild war what is described here is in whole atys, PvP flag is ignored - open season between 2 guilds at war.iphdrunk wrote:2. Something that shocked me "On the long term (meaning: this won't happen soon!), we would like to add other types of PvP, such as Guild vs Guild wars. It would allow guilds to solve their disputes when negotiations and diplomacy fails. " I thought this was a major asset of outposts, who supposedly are 'around the corner' (although myself I am starting to waonder about a Christmas outpost release). Comments on this? how can be outposts to be released soon (tm) and Guild vs Guild pvP a long term thing?
Re: Letter from the PvP Strike Team
I'm thinking that if the two Fyros were engaged in Karavan vs Kami FvF event (as opposed to Player vs Player duel where there wouldn't be any 3rd party involvement) the Karavan-Pro Fyros would be in trouble if they engaged near a Kami TP. That's assuming the Fyrosian-Homin guards only cared about Race Factions (both are Fyros in this scenerio).winky28 wrote:Well i'm still kinda new to ryzom... but i didn't get this:

.
This is something we'll learn together as its not in-game yet and looks like we'll have plenty of time to discuss it.

Re: Letter from the PvP Strike Team
Completely confused here :
* PvP tag
Second, we would add a "PvP tag"; it would be up to you to trigger the flag on or not.
Players tagged with the PvP flag and as non-neutral toward the major factions would be directly involved in *WORLDWIDE Faction PvP.* (asterics and caps mine)
Neutral players would NOT be affected by Faction oriented PvP, whether their PvP flag is on or off. These players should, however, keep in mind that* if they enter a Faction-oriented PvP area OR *an event area, they would still be able to defend themselves if they are attacked, but wouldn't be able to initiate a fight.
(again, asterics and caps mine)
My muddle is... my flag is off (and I assure you.. it WILL be off) if the whole world is Faction PvP are you saying I can be attacked regardless of my flag state? Can I be attacked until i'm dead even though I have refused any participation in PvP?
I am really hoping I just don't understand you here. I am frightened that I might.

Re: Letter from the PvP Strike Team
As far as I understand it, it basically means you would be the same as everyone is now. In normal areas of the game, you are unattackable, but in declared PvP zones (such as some of the ones on Atys now) you would not be able to "hit first", but someone could hit you, and then you would be allowed to retaliate.kazuki wrote:I am really hoping I just don't understand you here. That makes sense to me, and I hope its how they meant it

Ahh I hope so, not that I like that either (I want a complete, total, forever opt-out), I have no quarrel with homins and I will not participate in religious or political lethal crusades, but it's easier to avoid areas than it is to avoid a worldwide faction pvp. Something tells this homin there will be no place left here for a non-pvp character. It makes me sad.

(adding his two dapper to the convo)
I am REALL REALLY glad to see that the "PvP strike team" have thought about *us* neturals. i am glad to see that if you dont want to fight you dont have to, but have to defend yourself if attacks.. - semi-passivists. (tho i guess if u just sit when attacked it wont be much fun for the attcks just nuking a sitting enemy )
Big thumbs up from me

Re: Letter from the PvP Strike Team
I applaud the direction this letter shows. I'm particularly pleased with the possiblity of combat between races (although I'd prefer civilizations or cultures, I'm not overly PC, but race war is about as ugly a term as you can get), and the fame reworking.
Fame should play a more important role in SoR, not just in the permutations of PvP but in rites and other rewards. I'm hope that higher level rites are introduced that require very high faction/civilization fame. There should be fewer rites given to the neutrals because they have better mobility and more options during wars.
Without fame requirements for guilds, someone could get these rites/rewards simply by jumping guilds. Someone who when unguilded is leaning strongly towards one faction shouldn't, just by joining a guild of the opposite faction, be able to complete a high fame rite. For example, neutral is set at +/- 20, a character with personal and civilization fame of +35 Karavan shouldn't be allowed to join a guild with +100 Kami fame and do a rite requiring +65 Kami fame. If this character really wanted the rite he could work on Kami fame to the point where Karavan fame was reduced to +20, join the Kami extreme guild and then could complete the rite.
I don't see the Guild vs. Guild being long term as something that relates to outposts. When outposts are introduced, the two guilds can fight only within a certain distance of the outpost plus in the prime roots and arena. GvG will allow this fight to extend across all of Atys and require more coding.
One thing I'd like to see in the event of a world wide Kami/Karavan or civilization vs. civilization war is expelling the Kami/Karavan Ambassador's in the 0-50 zones. If opponents want to hunt low level characters near the opposing faction's capitals, they should be forced to trek in from a neighboring zone.

Re: Letter from the PvP Strike Team
Well hopefully it will mean that those guilds that claim to be neutral but actually do missions for one particular faction (i.e. they're just paying lip service to neutrality) will then be forced to 'own up' and be aligned to the faction their fame points to.iphdrunk wrote: 1. In aspects like : "Neutral guilds wouldn't be able to have pro-Kami or pro-Karavan members, only neutral members or members from a race faction (Fyros, Matis, Zoraï or Tryker)." and similar. Are you aware of the implications that this kind of restrictions can have on existing guilds?
If people want to claim neutrality, I think they should have to work at it. Balance their fame by doing missions for both sides.
