I recently bought a Compaq laptop (R4000 series) and was able to get SoR to work. Here's my hardware:
AMD Athlon 64 3200+
768 MB DDR333
ATI R200 Graphics Chip w/128MB dedicated RAM
Even with this decent laptop, I had performance issues. I ended up haveing to add more RAM (started with 512MB), turned off the micro-vegatation, and set the clipping distance down a bit. As for the card itself, I made sure anti-aliasing was turned off and any other things that weren't absolutly necessary. This helped the game run SOR a lot smoother, although it is still a bit laggy in a crowded areas and not as pretty as I'd like but it works.

I got it to work on my HP9005 with ATI IGN 320M on board gfx.
But it is as unplayable as a BeeGees Album.

I've had this on 3 machines now and managed to get it working on two of them. One with built in intel gfx and this latest one has built in SiS. Be warned the game looks really really ugly like this
Run the ryzom config program found in the Ryzom install dir. In display settings turn off the auto function, select opengl. Select windowed mode. Turn all details settings down to normal or less. In advanced settings (i think it was, patching at the mo so cant check) disable all functions listed.
When you run the game after this you will get an error message regarding allocation of agp memory and do you want more info on it. Select No (if you select yes the game closes).
I havent tried sneaking the detail settings back up a notch at a time from within the game once its loaded using this method that will be my next project once this patching is done

I wish I could get it to work on a PC with a ATI Rage Pro in, as I have one spare at work
It just says 'cannot create window' in direct3d mode
and crashes as it tryies to load your character selection screen, presume cuz its 3D or summat, open GL mode.
Any Ideas?
On my laptop above i get the usual, update ur drives, use direct3d and the AGP one, and then it works, albiet badly.

Although it's been a month since you asked - the Rage Pro is WAY too far below the minimum requirements, I'd say there is no chance SoR will ever run on that.
