Could try to do a limitid form of poker. There's always the good old 'rolling of the bones' ie. craps.
If you decided to get realy inventive, you could try a type of living board game. Roll to see how far you go and what direction, and depending on the number rolled, you might have to do certain actions, such as taunting any creature in range and just standing there 'takeing it like a homin', as it were, fight any specific creature w/in range, dueling with the nearest opponent w/o moveing, forage something in range, that type of stuff.

I like this idea

I was thinking of 'Snakes and Ladders' myself too, but I guess it would be difficult controlling the snakes and the ladders

How's about....Atys Lottery?!
Everyone buys a ticket(100, 1000 dap?) and is given a number (probably easier if they dont' choose but are allocated from 1 upwards... Selling is open for a week then when all sales are in someone does a random between 1 and the number of tickets sold....an kablammo! There you have a lottery.

Allocating loot:
2 guilds go for a boss or NPC (Aen et al.)
Either roll for highest on each piece or
if 60 mats are dropped each 'team member' rolls for thier allocation.
eg.
Team Member 1 - /ramdom 1 60
result 15
Team Member 2 - /random 1 45
result 30
...
Would reduce the number of 'Kill stealing' threads *wink*

/random 1 2
1 = go for rez
2 = selfish mode!

I tried to think how this could work with current mechanisms and I did not find any way to handle buying of tickets in any sensible way. Hardest part is actually collecting dappers from players who wish to participate if there are like 100 participants.
Players could select numbers with simple web interface or just send by ingame mail. It would be upto participant to claim victory when his numbers are checked. Drawing winning numbers is nobrainer too. Price money will be divided between those who claim victory within certain time period.
But how we could arrange collecting dappers without too much effort for individual? Maybe a guild could do that at announced time and location?
Lottery would be cool. Price money should of course go to next round if no one claims it.
