It is early, but I wanted to see if there were actually homins out there who wanted to give it a go.
Of course there is a lot of planning involved, and hence if it is started now(-ish) there is time to get stories and locations thought out.
And thereby faster release and test when the launch happens.

I know that if I had gone solo on "mods", it would be nearly Zorai only material.

I am sure that there will be forum and HOW-TO's for the upcomming expansion, what I am looking for is to put a team together.
The teams goals will be three fold:

1)
General (lowkey?) background areas, whose focus is on briniging knowledge about Atys from the site and into the game.

2)
Scenic areas, to show of the graphics in SoR.
Mundane areas, to answer trivial questions like "where do homins get their food from".
Ruins with a story to recover (think minor dungeon with a purpose other than loot).

3)
Story archs and events (the real challenge :D ).
NPCs will actually have something to tell you, some will lie or ignore you (fame will mean something, so beware!).
You will need all you skills to succed.

Of course to get that ingame will require a lot of work, even for a team.
All that is asked for, is that you want to make it work, you don't have to be a master at anything.
That being said, there are of course some areas which needs skills (to name a few).

Tech: Map makers, script writers.
Writing: Story and speech writers, translators to French and German.
Misc.: Ideas, testers, cheerleaders. :p

Now bring on the constructive criticism.

Just to bring you back to reality. In the first version you probably won't be able to create complete new maps. You will pick from some preselected map templates and place the towns, npcs, and mobs on the map. You will also be able to place boss mobs and have mini invasions spawn. You will also only be able to use objects that exist in the game already. So you can't create a new mob or anything like that.

Also the idea behind this is not to give the players the opportunity to create new lands from scratch but instead to give them the opportunity to create instances of their own. I don't beleive the idea is to have teams of players create areas, but the individual player to create an area of their own. The tools they are going to create will not require heavy scripting or anything like that. They want to make this so that anyway can create their own area of atys, not so that an elite few can.

Raynes is right about this. i personaly don't belive that real "map making" will ever be posible. Ryzom maps are not WC or C&C maps. Most of the "ring places" will be PvP areas, maybe a bit different (catch the flag or something) or maybe trading places.

but I am guessing that what we can defnitely do is scripted dialogues, events, triggers, etc. You know how some of us want to be able to have player created missions in the past? Well this is it :)

I really hope that they will consider allowing players to provide some sort of rewards for the maps (e.g. dappers, crafted items, etc).

I think a team of people will help things. A single person can and will make some maps/scenarios and maybe the end product of the team effort will have to be made by one person but for me a team will help share the workload. I think our guild will be doing something and if I've got enough spare time between that and ransacking outposts then count me in!

Your missing the point. It's not going to be so complex to the point where a team will be needed. I really think you are expecting way too much freedom with this.

i think it realy is a little bit early to make hard plans as we don´t know what level of freedom we have as moders.
nice would be a a two mode thing, an easy one with premade maps n´scripts, tools to extract .bmp for skins/tatoos
to use for the 1man/woman team instances and a heavy one with the possibility to write your own scripts and make
models/skins an stuff for the bigger teams or more experienced :p .
a simple tool could change a game for the better, just look at sims2 body shop, the only possibility you have with it is to change the skin/coloration of hairs/eyes/clothes/tatoos/makeup and i had tons of fun with it without even playing the game!!!(hint, hint, hint for prereleased tatoomaker ;) )

and i work with GIMP to make skins and stuff ;)

Count me in as well...

I'm an avid fan of the NWN toolset, so I will most certainly jump on the R2 challenge as well to try it out. I'm hoping for alot of dialogue options, and the possibility to create lore objects that can be handed over to you (the player) by an NPC.

When I first started playing SoR I had just finished the NWN HoTU campaign a second time around, so I got rather disappointed to see that NPC dialogue was so limited, and it gave me a feeling that the world was empty so to speak. That was before I entered a guild and interacted with homins more actively, so I don't feel the same way anymore.

Anyways, that's what I'll try to do I guess - create dialogues that captivates the player, and brings Atys more to life. *cough* or something like that..

Fairly decent at GMimg (least my players haven't left yet), and currently working on a Bachelors in Comp Sci, so I'm up for just about anything. But, like was said befor, have to wait and see what we have to work with.
