I also didn't understand Takashi's rule where you can only enter competition within your own race. I dont' see why we can't have one overall tournaments inter-races.
Is it traveling problem?

It is a matter of 'This is the Mightest Tryker Warrior! This is the Mightest Zorai Warrior! But between the two, who will prevale? Death From Below, or The Long Arm Of The Kami? Come now, and see this great fight!!!'
you know, that type of thing. Kinda racial/societial pride, like the Olympics.

Message from Calebrien:
Hello guys, just wanted to update you on my plans for how I'm aiming to run the gladiator events, after all its something I'm running for you so its only fair to let you know and comment
First off I shall respond to some of your comments/suggestions since my last post:
Vinnyq: I have been unable to think of a way to involve crafting and harvesting competitions into the event, however if you have any ideas I would certainly consider them. However, I would like to get it all up and running initially before I add extra sections such as this (but certainly something I'll consider down the line)
I have taken into consideration your suggestion about the team events, and as a result have come up with two initial categories for this. Due to the Matis arena being the only suitable location to hold these currently, they shall all be held there. This is due to requiring a PvP arena in a central location, it isnt ideal to only have one location as it is unfair on the other races, but the team competitions shall be multi-racial from the start, and I am for the near future not planning racial leagues as such.
Here are the two I am planning:
1) Team v Team - will start with one competition with a team member limit of 4 or 5 most likely (still undecided on a final number). It shall be an anything goes sort of thing, but obviously you will require team work to win. There is of course the possibility of adding different sized team events further down the line dependant on how successful it is.
2) Free for all - anything goes sort of event with any number of people allowed to take part and the last homin standing will win
As for the racial events, there was a good reason for this, and I shall continue it for the same reasons for now. However, events shall not be strictly racial always, but I shall explain further later on. The main reason currently is as you put, some players may not have access to other lands to play the other competitors. However, later on (maybe after a couple of weeks of running the events) I shall set it something like a certain number of the top-ranked players in each racial category qualify for the inter-racial tournaments to represent their race. Making it an additional reason to aim to be higher on the rankings.
Vguerin: Thank you for your support in doing this. Yes it shall be a lot of work, but no doubt I shall hopefully enjoy it if it works correctly Also I know I can depend on the rest of the CSR team (and helpful homins) to support me in this task.
As for the Windermeer version that was originally performed, I shall not be finishing this for a variety of reasons for now. The main reasons being it could be awkward getting those same players back to compete, I don't know the current "state of play" and all the details involved. Also its fairer for all to restart it, so anyone can take part (and it also makes it a lot easier on me ). So as much as I would like to finish it off, I am unfortunately unable to myself, but I hope to make this one as much or more fun as the last.
I know you all appreciated Takashi's running of the other event, and I hope to live up to what he was able to achieve.
As for the time zones, I shall of course post scheduled gatherings in advance, and the set up of the leagues will *hopefully* enable it to work reasonably well multi-time zoned.
Asaseth: Yes correct, this is another good advantage with the racial events, and qualifying for the "world championships" so you can represent your race. It can add that sense of pride to representing your race. However, I would appreciate it if you all did spread the word about this, to make sure your race has the best choice of competitors competing for the place, and also to make it more fun.
Any more comments, questions or suggestions are always welcome and I shall try my best to take them in and explain my reasoning
Ok and now for my plans on how I am going to run the events. Of course these are not 100% final and I can change them based on the comments and suggestions I receive before the events start (this is the main reason for doing it so far in advance of the start date 30th May).
I shall start initially with the following categories, and depending on how successful each is I shall add/remove them as deemed appropriate (all categories will be racial, ie you can only enter your own race's at first unless otherwise stated):
Catagories
Gunslingers - Only range weapons
Masters of Magic - Any magic allowed, no melee/range
Dual Bladers - Daggers only
Heavy Gladiators - 2h melee only
Medium Gladiators - 1h melee only (with shield or dagger in 2nd hand)
All Rounders - Anything goes
Team v Team - Anything goes/team consists of 5 members max in the the matis arena (no race restriction)
Free for all - Anything goes, no player limit in the matis arena (no race restriction)
General Rules
Any equipment is allowed
Competitors must not stray from a pre-determined area or it is taken as surrender
All stanzas allowed (for the moment) as it is easier to judge
Only CSR judge and their word is final (without a CSR judge it is not deemed an official event)
Bouts may only be replayed if both competitors and the judge agree
All fights are "best of one"
You may fight someone in a certain league no more than once a fortnight (you may still fight them in different leagues though)
Scoring Rules
Once the league ladder is up and running, points for wins/draws etc will depend on your relation in the table to your competitor.
If your competitor is 5 or less ranks away from you in the table, it is 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a loss
If your competitor is more than 5 ranks HIGHER than you in the table and you win, you can earn 5 points for a win, 2 for a draw and 0 for a loss.
If your competitor is more than 5 ranks LOWER than you in the table and you win you get 0 points for a win, unless they challenged you, in which case you get 1 point for the win.
If you do not fight for two weeks, you loose 5 points (to a min of 0)
If you do not fight for three weeks, you loose another 10 points (to a min of 0)
If you do not fight for four weeks, you are taken off that league and must reapply to rejoin it
eg: Rank7 vs Rank8 - Rank8 wins and gets 3 points, Rank7 gets 0
eg: Rank16 vs Rank1 - Rank1 wins and gets 1 point, Rank16 gets 0
eg: Rank 14 vs Rank 2 - Rank14 wins and gets 5 points, Rank2 gets 0
Don't worry so much if you dont understand it, you will hopefully pick it up as you see it progress. It is not important so much to understand it, as I shall be keeping the scores
Match times
We shall start with initial events in each land to get the league tables basically built up. I shall not go into detail on how I am going to run these ones specifically, as I haven't quite decided myself yet, but the starting events will be scored differently from normal.
After these are done there will be two ways to fight a match.
The first will be to challenge someone, then pick a time and place, and call in a CSR judge (I shall go over how to do this closer to the time). However, it may not always be possible to get a judge at your first choice time, so plan ahead
The second way will be scheduled meetings that I shall post on the forums in advance. People can come along and have their matches judged there. This is also the best way to get new people involved in the leagues.
I hope that the way I am doing the system, it shall make it fair for all races/levels and styles of play (with the exception of harvest and craft for the moment) can take part. The lower levels should naturally end up lower on the league table, but that should make it something to aim for to get higher. It should also prove interesting higher up the tables with the more experienced players fighting for the top places.
This way also means we don't have to worry about people lying about their levels as all levels are welcome.
Please comment on anything you like, I know its a lot to take in and the post ended up being far longer than I planned
Thanks in advance

Re: Gladiator!
Looks good... my category had changed quite a bit though. I will go with whatever you decide is best, but dual wield, daggers and 1h melee are all different styles. Grouping dual wield bladers with 1h melee changes the group quite a bit. When you take into consideration armor/shield penalties etc... Dual wield is unique as it is currently limited to a sword/dagger combo, 2 skills you need to be effective with... it doesn't fit in very well against a skill (1h any weapon) that only needs to be raised singly.

Re: Gladiator!
As far as how to include crafting and foraging, you could try a triathalon-type thing. Have one of the check points be a spot with a type of forage source, have to pull so many out, then run to the next guy. The crafting part would be: the team mate runs up, exchanges the mats he has with the crafter, the crafter has to make the item (quality and item are to be determined at the very start of the race, so they can't 'pre-make' it), and then either he runs, or his team mate exchanges back, and then runs. Bonuses could be given or it could be a requirement for the item to have a certain boost, the lvl of the boost, that type of stuff.

Re: Gladiator!
From Calebrien:
Greetings again homins
First of all I would like to officially announce that we shall be starting this next Monday, the 30th May with the first two sessions in the Matis Arena at 8pm UK time and again at 8pm EDT. At these two sessions, we shall start the matis leagues, and get them initially organised so we have a good league table to continue with.
On Monday in the Arena we shall also start the 5v5 Team League table, and that is open to all races. I also hope to do a free for all event in the arena, a last man standing sort of thing. Other than that the other events will be for the Matisian race only. The following leagues are open to compete in:
Matis Gunslingers - Only range weapons
Matis Masters of Magic - Any magic allowed, no melee/range
Matis Dual Bladers - Daggers only
Matis Heavy Gladiators - 2h melee only
Matis Medium Gladiators - 1h melee only (with shield or dagger in 2nd hand)
Matis All Rounders - Anything goes
On Tuesday 31st we shall be in Fyros, in the Agora Hall (the big open hall with the stage). Again this shall take place at 8pm UK time and again at 8pm EDT. Here we shall not do the group and last man standing events but we shall do the Fyros leagues:
Fyros Gunslingers - Only range weapons
Fyros Masters of Magic - Any magic allowed, no melee/range
Fyros Dual Bladers - Daggers only
Fyros Heavy Gladiators - 2h melee only
Fyros Medium Gladiators - 1h melee only (with shield or dagger in 2nd hand)
Fyros All Rounders - Anything goes
On Wednesday 1st June we shall be in Tryker, Near the Stables in Fairhaven. Again this shall take place at 8pm UK time and again at 8pm EDT. We shall do the Tryker Leagues here:
Tryker Gunslingers - Only range weapons
Tryker Masters of Magic - Any magic allowed, no melee/range
Tryker Dual Bladers - Daggers only
Tryker Heavy Gladiators - 2h melee only
Tryker Medium Gladiators - 1h melee only (with shield or dagger in 2nd hand)
Tryker All Rounders - Anything goes
Lastly on Thursday 2nd June we shall do the Zorai events, on the stage in Zora. Taking place at 8pm UK and 8pm EDT once more. Here we shall do the Zorai leagues:
Zorai Gunslingers - Only range weapons
Zorai Masters of Magic - Any magic allowed, no melee/range
Zorai Dual Bladers - Daggers only
Zorai Heavy Gladiators - 2h melee only
Zorai Medium Gladiators - 1h melee only (with shield or dagger in 2nd hand)
Zorai All Rounders - Anything goes
*Remember you can take part in any number of leagues as you like, so long as they are for your own race*
After we have done all of these, people may challenge other people in the table at will, we shall also do gathering events such as these again at regular intervals.
You can turn up to any of these events you like and watch or compete, or both . Remember you can take part in multiple leagues if you want to, for example a Matis can take part in The "Matis Gunslingers" and the "Matis Medium Gladiators" and the "All rounders" and even the "5v5 Team event". They will just have to fight more battles
Once the leagues are up and running you can challenge someone else in one of your leagues at any time. If you both agree you should contact the CSR team to see when they can provide a judge for the fight, remember one wont be available all the time, so be prepared to wait a bit . Contact the CSR team in game, by klients, organise a fight on the forums or send an e-mail in game to Calebrien.
Remember you can not fight someone in the same league more than once every two weeks, although you may still fight in other leagues.
How the League tables work
Once the league tables are up and running there is a set scoring system in place. I shall be marking all the scores so its not essential to understand it completely, but it can be useful for knowing who to challenge etc
The basic system is:
If someone is within 5 ranks of you on the league (EXAMPLE: you are 10th, then between 5th and 15th):
3 points for a win
0 for a loss
If someone is more than 5 ranks ahead of you (EXAMPLE: you are 10th, then 4th to 1st):
5 points for a win
0 for a loss
If someone is more than 5 ranks below you (EXAMPLE: you are 10th, then 16th and upwards):
1 point for a win (if they challenge you)
0 points for a win (if you challenge them)
0 for a loss
Hopefully this will ensure people don't pick on people ranked far lower than themselves, but people can still challenge them for the chance of more points.
Also using a points system allows for players from different time zones to compete in the same league without actually having to fight each other.
Here is an example league table:
Fyros Dual Bladers (2x Dagger)
Rank: Name (Points) {Time zone}
1: Calebrien (23) {BST}
2: Phaedrea (22) {BST}
3: Lanti (21) {EDT}
4: Shadowweb (19) {EDT}
5: Dever (19) {BST}
6: Yvrelle (18) {EDT}
7: Riinii (18) {CET}
8: Turenkarn (16) {BST}
9: Tigane (15) {CET}
10: Soulsnatcher (14) {BST}
11: Liwienne (12) {EDT}
12: Lawrence (11) {EDT}
13: Theai (9) {CET}
14: Zerlin (6) {EDT}
15: Raya (5) {BST}
16: Flump (3) {CET}
17: Waedan (3) {EDT}
*please note this is a complete example and I just placed on random time zones to each name. I just chose the CSR names as good example names*
Ok say for example you are ranked 10 on this list, where Souls is. You want to challenge someone for a higher place on the league. You have a choice:
Those in the red zone, from 16 downwards (in this case 16 and 17), will not give you any points for challenging them, and they are ranked too low compared with you.
Those in the orange zone, from 5 to 15, will give you 3 points for a win and 0 for a loss.
Those in the Blue zone, from 1 to 4, will give you 5 points for a win and 0 for a loss. They are will give more points than the orange zone, but are likely more difficult.
You decide to fight Turenkarn, if you beat him it will give you 3 points, however if you lose, he will gain 3 points instead.
This is how you move up and down the list. Remember it will most likely end up with the higher levels higher up the list, and the lower levels further down the list. But this just ensures you will more likely compete against people of a similar strength to you. Being ranked 1st isnt everything
As I say the initial events will take place Monday to Thursday, and you will be able to challenge people normally from Friday
If there are any further questions, I shall try to be in klients or in game as much as I can, so feel free to ask questions on the thread here or to be directly
Remember I still like suggestions for improvements to the event, I expect that not everything will run smoothly and I will have to adapt a few things once we begin.
As for the harvest and craft competitions, they are an interesting idea, but for now I shall focus on getting the events up and running and consider them at a later event, for this or a different event perhaps
-Calebrien

Re: Gladiator!
This was pretty fun although I remember beating Ambika in daggers as well as entering, but losing to Kostoprav in 1h melee. Just wanted my 5 seconds of fame before me and all the other knife fighters are wiped off the table by the likes of Richard & Elizabeth

Re: Gladiator!
Aye that you did. But I think we got the same number of pts overall (not sure how. Oo; ). And cause my name starts with A...and your name starts with R....it was alphabetized. ^.^boinged wrote:This was pretty fun although I remember beating Ambika in daggers as well as entering, but losing to Kostoprav in 1h melee. EDIT: Actually, that might be a miscount. Oo; I know I beat Spriteh...I died to you. I shoulda only gotten 3 pts, no? (2 for a win and 1 for entering or something? or was it 2 for entering? If that's the case, I can see why I got 4 pts)
