Come in, pull up a chair, let's discuss all things Ryzom-related.

I am interested in helping new players on the welcome boards

On the starter isle thing:

* take the trainers out of the buildings, they are not verry accessable.
* don't let people choose starter packs, give them everything form the start. (spending 50 skillpoints on another tree can be a tough one when you are level 10 and want to do something else and chose all melee) this can help show the whole ryzom experiance and show you need to train a skill to be good at it, any skill.
* put small bosses that drop good crafting mats in the starter isle that can be killed with 2/3 people to make it a bit more exciting then killing kipee's and shows some variation. eg a slightly bigger clopper/yber/kipee in a group of mobs
* Lower the prices of the materials in the shops so people can craft more easy, maybe even bring back the generic mats ?
* make the missions a bit clearer and interesting to do, maybe a starter rite for every skill branch with a nice reward in fame/dappers/items/skills ?
* create a help channel that all the players in the newbie isles can acces.

thoughts

Merging the islands is a good idea but it will split people up later if they have to go to the main lands or it will drive chars to one 'best' land of you can choose.

A solution might be a karavan and kami starting island, preparing the refugees for karavan or kami life and give a bit more back ground. after the initial training has been done a representative of the karavan (starting race?) will offer to tp the player to their homeland.

another idea: have a level req to leave the starting isle, say level 10 in a branch, or to have aquired a certain amount of dappers to leave. Combine this with the option to have higher players acces the starting lands to help thier friends and not let level 1 newbies out in the big world without any training whatsoever. If the help channel is linked to the starter isles players can acces it there and help out new people with advice and items. If needed put restrictions on actions of higher players in the starter islands

I already have a fyros and zoraï newbie character that I use to monitor the population on the islands, as well as help out new players.

Out of the few zoraï regular players I saw during the last week, one is now doing well on the mainland. Go Chosun! ;)

I would recommend more players to try this approach. Although time consuming, I find it very rewarding :)

I dont think linking all island would be good. Remember how you felt when entering first time region of another race ? It was exciting !!!

A help channel sounds good. We already talked here about creating a lowlvl char to help out others starting.

I tried this and was alone (Tryker). Suddenly another player was there. I asked him for a mat spot (really have forgotten some ;) ) He told me to go to FH :D . I didnt but he was away with lvl 1 i guess

The merchants showed me that many ppls are on refugee island but i guess most of them are out of my timezone.

If it comes to it that help is needed, i will be there again.

btw I voted no. I don't have the time.

if you want new people to understand the game faster and better change the welcomer missions, they are unclear, different in complexity and vary in time so much is it hard to understand what to expect. (eg the beng amber mission as compared to heal a person 1 time)

* linking all 4 starter islands chat together (see problem above)

Lovely idea promoting interaction between all the races, bringing them together as homins. Sanz loves the idea. Sadly, that would take away some of the tension between the two races and lose a lot of continuity with the plots concerning the history of interaction between the races. But linking the chat to the main isle, especially as a seperate channel, would be wonderfully helpful to younglings finding their way in the world.

N00bs need no help from players.
Are guides/gm's and "question" mark ingame. Alow staff to be more helpfull and all will be fine. Place 1 gm/guide in each island and put him in charge with help.
Is all you should do. Is the 1-st rule in a company: instead of more expenses place more responsabilities on personal. If someone gets nervous and quits, are tousands of hungy peeps on the door ready to work for half :P

PS And a sugestion: guides should not be allowed to play the game as players. If they want to, they should use another character, or another account. (Yeah, I know they are volunteers... blah blah. So what?)

Uh, have you ever seen a guide character "playing" the game? Its crazy to suggest that a CSR would play using their character.

Hes told me who he thinks, and he will send a ticket/screenshot to the CSR team if it happens again.
