But to get back to the original question of why there isn't a comprehensive gallery, let's consider armor....
4 armor types (light/caster/medium/heavy)
3 grades (basic/medium/high)
8 colors (beige/purple/green/turquoise/blue/red/black/white)
2 sexes (do i have to spell this out?)
4 races (tryker/zorai/fyros/matis)
4*3*2*8*4 = 768 individual pictures
That's 768 pictures for ONE angle on ONE avatar. If you want to do front/back, that's 1536 pictures. If you want to do front/back on each of the 4 races, that's 6144 images.
And, if you're curious, that's 29952 mats.
It's not impossible by any means, but it's certainly a daunting task to make a truly comprehensive set of images, as we at BM have discovered. We are taking a shot at it and should have something to show for it soon.
Get rid of the different colors
Just do them all in one color (red since it is easiest to craft) that will take a couple pictures out

Wait till you guys see it... it's pretty amazing. Rak/Osh/Soma worked their bodoc's off getting all the mats.
Personally I think one race wearing all the stuff should be sufficient, there isn't much difference with the others (just size).

Yep i Imagine it'll be great.
If you ask for the community i'm sure they'll help.
I'm happy to do all the colours in fryos low and med, if required, for example.

I love this idea, and had discussed something similar in guild awhile back but didn't follow up... If you were going to stay with one race for each of them to cut down on the volume of pics required, I'd suggest a Matis male model and a Fyros female model, each of average build for their races (i.e. no slider bars all the way to an extreme - ahem - smile). Using a median example of one of the medium-proportioned races should minimize the difficulty in extrapolating what the same armor might look like on your avatar. Alternately, perhaps using models of the same race as the pattern would be good, as they were designed with the proportions of that race in mind. Just throwing some ideas out there, maybe one or two will stick
I have a very pretty set of black zorai HQ heavy I'd be happy to model, if that will help get things rolling.
edit: I didn't see the link to the existing gallery at first - that is helpful to get the gist, but the resolution isn't high enough to do most of the patterns justice, methinks

Wow, thats great, I've been hoping someone would do this for a while now.
I put in an a suggestion with the in-game support tools a while back to have 3D previews of weapons and armor at the merchants to help us shop (similar to cosmetics merchants).
If something like that were to get implemented, it could speed up the process of creating the armor gallery, and perhaps make the thousands of combinations more realistic to include, since you could get alot of the images just by visiting your local armor merchant. One can hope...

not exactly. caster is only for pants. while light/medium/heavy change appearance on all parts, if someone is in caster pants, the rest of thier outfit will be repeated from the 3 main weight classes. (usually in light armor) although I don't really know what you can do about that. it's usually nice to see how the caster pants go with the rest of the outfit.
gender and weight-class change the appearance the most, since the models are completely different. 2x3=6, or 2x4=8
grades change appearance more drastically than color, although both still only change the texture rather than the 3D model.
race I'm not sure if it does more than scale them.... *shrug* although the proportions on a lot of them seem different enough that it would be good to see. 4x6=24 or 4x8=32. x3 qualities = 72 or 96.
put that in at least two colors each so that when one of the non-changing colors matches the changing color, you can see WHICH PARTS will always be the same color! (so annoying when you can't tell)
a gloves gallery would be small. you don't need to see anything more than the hand and a bit of the area around it. and I still don't know how many different gloves there are. (yes, gloves, as in gloves. not amps)
although, what I really want is to see all the weapons. ;_;
I'm thinking of doing some ranged weapons. the Zorai ones look really really goofy. too many look like blocky old-fashioned Star Trek guns or something. I forget if it's Klingon or Romulan. Klingon? I'm guessing the Matis ones look pretty decent. Fyros may be alright. am I right that there's one kind of Fyros that the guards carry around that looks like two blocks held together by 4 bars? looks kind of like some abstract hour-glass. Tryker look kind of like Matis except more like fish. not sure how far that look will go.
probably cheaper just to buy one off the merchant to at least see the 3D model. I have a feeling long-range will be the selling point for a ranged weapon, despite them planning on REDOING the skill tree anyways (whenever that will be) not sure if that's the launcher/autolauncher family or what.

If you need help with Fyros, Tryker, and Zorai Meduim armors, any officer of BM can get ahold of me IG.

OH GOD YES!!!
I hadn't thought of that. It's one thing to "hide" some things so that there are surprises, but there's not even a guarantee of being able to see all the varieties of equipment. It's not like if you want to see all *checks* 6 types of ranged weapons for the Tryker, that you (assuming you have left your homelands yet) teleport to Aeden Aequeous and even wander around the village. I did that in Avendale and there were NO NPCs with shields! I was pretty pissed. If I knew that (for example) in the capital city, there would be every weapon and armor for that race viewable on an NPC, that would be good, but I don't even think that's the case. then again... I can't say that with certainty. I'm sure if it were true, it would still be a very inconvenient hunt to see them all.
I mixed a set of light Tryker with light Fyros. as a result I ended up with a pretty nice looking melee outfit and casting outfit. then later when ALL my clothing had dissintegrated, I scrounged up a few old bits left in my packers and discovered that Fyros light boots might look nice with Matis light sleeves. They both have pointy bits (kneepads and shoulderpads)
of course it took me that MISTAKE to discover it.
