i was happy about the server merge (and still am)
im was happy about the forum merge too as it seemed the best option for all concerned but now i am not as sure.
This isnt an 'I hate Windermeer' post but i do hate the flaming and negativity that has suddenly sprung up on these forums.
Its not just a case of 'negative americans' because the recent flamers and negative posters have been from both (original) english speaking servers.
And by the same token, we have gained some great American positive people too*curtseys to systemv and others whose name escapes me at this moment*
ive just started to ramble and that wasnt my intention :/

i just want to plead with everyone to take a deep breath and think before they post something nasty/horrible/very negative

Please dont take this as me asking you never to post anything negative about Ryzom, i just want the forums as balanced as they were, something nice to read while i cant play, maybe a bit of flaming, but please not something that depreses me like this last week or so of reading almost nothing but arguments

i understand why ur posting this.. but maybe the answer lies with the forum mod(s?). Yesterday was chaos here with ppl being accusing of being Nazis among other things, and not a peep from Lawrence or any other mod.. If the forums go un-moderated then unfortunately they are going to also degenerate into mindless name-calling and flaming. splitting them wont help

currently law is the only cm for all three communities, added onto that he is also SGM of the german shard, i think you can find out alone how much time that leaves for resolving pointless bickering in the forums here ;)

I'm very insulted, moreso by some of the comments than the poll:/ This is the first time I've had any negativity directed at me since the merge (and my return to play in the new community). I take it personally because I was generalized about.

My take:

We should consider just loving one another, instead, so that we as Ryzom players can continue to be in our best, strongest, and most beautiful form. The alternative is to risk falling prey to escalating negativity, infighting, ugliness, and unhappiness. X group as a whole is -never- a taint to Y culture!! When one believes a negative concept such as that, one runs the risk of only picking up upon the negative elements that reinforce the mistaken belief, while becoming blind to all other elements of positivity, strength, and beauty.

In life there will always be much interaction with diverse -individuals- who may well have different standards in certain interpersonal areas and may be at different levels of development in others.

There are individuals in ALL countries who may well put one's teeth on edge!!! There are individuals in ALL countries who may often be very nasty to others (which usually stems from the extreme pain in that person's life, and from the lack of understanding and love they've experienced from their fellow human beings since they've been on the planet--and those people will continue to be nasty until someone takes the initiative to treat them better than they deserve, even if it's only for the sake of the people that they might hurt otherwise!! Treating someone you don't like with love often neutralizes and strangely enough, transforms them for the better!!!).

It is always best to strive for tolerance and to lead by example, rather than to reject and to ostracize!!!!! Such seeds of negativity have escalated as a rule in all of human affairs. All of history since the dawn of time consists of endlessly endlessly endlessy clumping together in suspicious and fearful groups, and eventually warring time and time again (and today we have nukes!).

What I'm trying to say is let's be cautious not to accidently force those negative aspects of human nature to manifest themselves.

Let's instead focus simply upon extracting the riches of a relationship of greatest possible diversity, happiness, strength, and even love. :) Why not?

Thanks for listening.

I can't see that a server re-split would do anything at all positive.

*It would make it very hard for those of us who wish to interact together to do so. I, for one, don't wish to have to read 2 sets of forums just to interact with my mates across the pond.

*It would only increase the gulf between the perceived sides, instead of helping us to fully integrate. Notice the word "perceived". There are NOT two sides, no us vs them. But by splitting the forums again, you would indeed create an us vs them attitude.

I, for one, propose that all of us resolve to help one another learn to resolve our differences peaceably, and learn to disagree without it becoming a flame war. Flame wars are generally started due to some form of frustration, and are intended to get a rise out of the element that has become the focus for the frustration. I think we all need to remember that this is a game, and that we play it to enjoy ourselves, to relax. Personal attacks, name calling, and racial slurs have no place in it, as they are real life issues, and have nothing to do with the game. If people are taking something in-game so personal that they need to resort to rl name-calling and racial slurs, and feel real anger or insult, then maybe they should step back a little, reassess why they are playing, and what they are getting out of it, before continuing with that onslaught. But that's just my two cents on that little topic.

I would also like to point out to our EE brethren that the average NA online gamer is a bit younger than the average online EE gamer. That being said, I've still noticed that the majority of the players are mature individuals. It's just the squeaky wheels that get noticed. On both "perceived" sides. Those who make the most noise, the most ruckus, are those that stick in the mind most. So, 100 people could make nice, positive posts, but 2 having a flame-war will stick out like a sore thumb, and then generalizations get made. That should be avoided. Keep the blame where it should be, and try not to blame all for the actions of the few. That may help to heal some wounds, too. :)

Anyway, just my two cents worth. :) Personally, I've been loving the new server, and I've been having GREAT fun with all the new people to play with. :) I hope that everyone else is enjoying this merger as much as I. :)

Edit: LOL Right after I posted this, I saw that while I was typing it out, Golden had posted a reply saying exactly what I was trying to say, only much more eloquently. :) So, yeah, what Golden said. :) Well done, Golden.

The forums will remain in their current form. ;) We've merged them following your feedback and I think the current poll reflects that the majority of players still supports this decision.

It just takes some time for everyone to get to know each other, and with people from many different cultures posting here, it is normal we don't always have rainbows and sunshine dominating the place.

There is a small minority of players who still need to take a closer look at our forum rules and netiquette, but we'll get that sorted. ;) If you notice inadequate or offensive postings yourself, you can help us dealing with them more swiftly, by informing a member of the staff immediately.

I think lawrence basically its just what some of us feared has come to pass and I think the statement made back up a few posts is true, we now need the forum moderated a bit more. I think no ones going to get upset if you lock threads that are purposeless negative whines. This will encourage proper discussion, nothing different to whats done on most other forums anyway.
