You are right colors do not affect weapons/amps at all currently. Patterns are the only things that will change the look of amps/weapons. I am in the know since I can craft high quality for all four races

It happens to be fortunate enough to have a pair of RED hi-q supreme amps (fyros). And they look cool indeed.
