Nah, not really... its just a "hole" in the system (i think...) to allow low lvl players to change direction easily. Anyways, if 50 sp's are a lot on some trees (50 sp = 1 HQ armor plan), in others you just don't have anything to spend them on (200+ sp's on magic to spend and nothing to do with them = each time i get upgrades i already did the sp's i need to buy them by lvling to the upgrade lvl, so i always have a 200 magic sp reserve... think that might change when i get the race elem spells though).

Hmmm, the old exploit argument again

Crafting and magic would both require skill to even begin training. Fighting, however, involves merely swinging a weapon repeatedly (at least at lower levels).
Plus, someone could make the choice mentioned (no fight pack), play for a while, and just buy a weapon, thus allowing them to fight - now how can that be exploiting when they were just 'checking out the weapons options' ?

I reccomend doing 2 Magic 1 Craft
then you get your first extraction stanza ( foraging ) with 20 magic points.

Although that is true for crafting, i've heard (not tried it) its possible to get magic xp with no skill. How? simply put an enchantment in a weap of your choice and start blasting/healing/blinding/etc away.

Sorry, I should have been clearer there

I didn't mean picking up xp in-game, I was thinking more about 'plausability' (avoiding using the word 'realistic'). I.e., if you put yourself in a fantasy setting, the previous comments apply:
Killing weak monsters is easy - pick up a sword (or any sharp object), swing, swing, slice, dead.
Try to make armour - falls apart on every attempt, until you finally figure out what you're doing
Try to cast magic - if you don't know how, where do you start?
Just my opinion obviously

Started with Melee/Craft/Harvest.
First 5
levels in magic got using enchantment "Cold x" on 2H Axe.
Then for 50 SP buyed first spell from Magic trainers.
2 times hit with cold, then kill in 2 hits with axe = XP 50%/50% (Melee/Magic)

darn that's odd.. i had this very idea way back and i remember trying it and getting no magic xp.. will have a test again 2nite
[BIG EDIT]
no i have just tested it, you get no xp. killed a few clopper's just with acid enchantment on dagger. tells me i killed them in system info but no xp message at all. It may have been different in the past but there are a lot of undocumented changes in patches.

I'll confirm that - you don't get xp from enchantments. If you hit a mob with an axe and then nuke them to death, you will receive 100% axe experience. No elemental.
