Now one comment i will get flamed for probably.

Many people want simple things. They want that someone is telling them what to do. It is not cause they are stupid. Its not that they have no own will.

They are just happy klicken 4 to 10 buttons and get told: Go to XYZ and kill ABC.

You named WoW. Good example. Skillsystem is easy. You just buy them. Foraging is something you can do "by the way" when on a mission. And you are always on mission :D . Those missions tell you all the time what to do. Looking back, the most fun was when i was out on Lake Mordan leveling my fishing skill. The only thing i did in WoW cause i wanted it to do by myself.

This are the reasons why i left WoW. You dont need to think any. You come to a new town, grab all missions. Find a team to solve missions, then move to next town.

***edit***
No, for about several months actually...
c“mon you will not recruit on noob island !?! :D

Then probably i should establish "The Noobsters" as a noob island only guild to prevent you from hiring kids :D :D

This is a catch 22 for me. I love to help people, but a great part of what I love about Atys is the struggle :o

If I was to go back to a new character, which I have done on the odd occasion. Its very hard to not do the most efficent way!

With my knowledge of Harvesting, I know what is the most effect plan to use, but I also know WHY its the most effective plan to use.

With my Knowledge of Magic, I know to level heal to gain sap then start leveling off using HP/SAP mixed credits.

With my knowlege of Melee, I know that good equipment+a healer is the fastest path!

And as for craft, lvling it is not the issue its the mat mixes that are important.

So ..... If I went back to starter land, they really hate it being call noob isle!, would I be helping the new players or creating leveling machines that can fast path.

Once you have been a main-lander you realise that you can jump from starter land straight after character creation and still succeed!

When I was last a lvl 1 character, I did find that a lot of work had been put into the intro missions and I felt that if I was to join the game today for the very first time, I would have no trouble getting started.

Improved game manual - would be nice, but I am the sort of game that only reads the manual when I can't get on the PC to play. I am a feet first game, jump in and struggle like mad, till it starts to make sense.

Starter Isle populations - this will always be a hard one, we will get waves of players that come because of marketing. People who join because their friends play will be out of starter land with in a day, so they can be with their friends.

I am not sure if the Guides already do this or not, but kinda promote the skills. Make the new players aware of things without specifically say do the following steps.

I know they used to tell to press 'L' when night fell

So I am not really sure of my point, but its kinda be helpful but don't play the game for them.

I went out hunting with the famous Kyrena it was a real pleasure. The feeling of excitement when she met here first Boss Mob was electric. I think she was genuinely scared by the knichers and Zerx, I remember those days, but months of harvesting toughens you up :P

I had a great time in giving confidence to a 'young healer in training' can team with higher level player as not be 'useless'.

So thanks Kyrena, you made my evening of blasting Stingas very pleasureable and without you there, it wouldn't have been half as fun :D You are an example to others and those you touched by your presence, in Starter lands, should feel honoured to have met you. I know I was honoured to have your company.

I dont want to start a new char. God no. You know how many pick get ruined to reach lvl 156 in digging !! Never again :D

Although i had/have some issues wiht my crafting SP i still have the chance to balance.

You *are* right !! Nerver tell one how to play until he is asking. Same goes for ppls on kami hill and the valley behind !

But be there with all you got when someone is asking.

You can laught at me, but i went through starter island wihtout boots although i have got the mats and the tool ;D. We where many ppls in december there. But no one knowed anything about configuring skills. Or why is it telling me that my amp is to low ? Why did i buy this pistol and there is no ammo around ?

We laught about such now. But a starter knows nothing. And the first 3-5 days are essential if player stays or leaves !

Is she still playing ? She was teamed with me. It was her first day on mainland and Atys Ghost made a trip to Matis. She asked something like if we would care a little since she feels a little fragile. Obvious not knowing that she was teamed with the strongest ppls of Atys Ghosts. And she did not accept any dapper for tp.

You ar absolutly right. I don't like WoW either. BUT you have to admit SoR gives a little too few tips on ho to get started. Noobfun is good, yes, but only AFTER you got the basic idea how the stanzas work. My little 16
year old brother left SoR 'cos he couldn't kill the mobs. OK I laughed at him, 'cos for me it was challenge to find it out but I'm 25 and tired of class-based MMOs. So I don't say Nevrax should chew the meat for you, but a little bit of help at the very first step would be good. Period. :)

Now for helping the newbies by experienced players. I don't say I would play instead of the guys out there. But sometimes there is simply noone who knew the answer to some very basic questions like action editing (thats why we would need a better in game help system and/or manual). It is a great thing if there is someone who knows the answer. Sometimes even showing the choice mat spots can help someone (especially since resource tracking is a piece of you know what). Even on mainlands I received questions from players (and they were playing for a week by then) that was simple for me, but they were stuck. There are many things I don't know myself.
All I say is that manypeople get frustrated by the complexity of the game. Is this a problem? Surely it raises the average IQ of the population, but Nevrax could use their bucks for the developing.

dont tell me. you people can not imagine how hard it is to start when playing with a wrong translated client ;)

You not only get less info, you get less and ambiguous info. You see the icon but the text doesnt fit to the icon. And you have only little SP to spend.

There are 4 booster stanza. Nearly all named diffrent. Only the similarity of the icons get you an idea...

No word about how, where what... One sentence like: "use them as as an option on your crafting plan" would have been very helpful :D

This thread does it!

If we want more peeps in the mainlands, we will have to make sure they stay beyond that first day indeed.

A call to all homins who care! Please spend some percentage of your online time on refugee island, telling the new people how to use stanza's and how to edit skills. Indeed, dont make them into lvl'ing machine, but the manual is lacking indeed on the core basics.

As I have 5 chars, one is a Fyros on the mainlands with xp, I have three slots left. A Tryker, a Fyros and a Zorai are already created and comatized in refugee isle. After my move, or when I feel like it beforehand, I will spend a little time there and see if help is wanted.

Anyone else?

btw: this also connects to Neun's post about boredom in the game :D

Good idea, if I didn't already have all five slots filled by characters who have already graduated to their main lands :P

But having spent a lot of time in the various refugee(newbie) islands, answering questions and helping the young homins, I can confirm that it's fun :)

You can also help to foster the sort of friendly community we want, by providing a good example.
