Misleading title, wrong subforum, putting in memory and unable to identify the current Mem.

Best solution I see here is to get back to the situation as it was, see if it works. If it does, problem solved.
If it doesnt, and still beeps, check all cards and stuff to be plugged in correctly, tehy could have moved or loosened due to you working inside.
If all else fails, ask a friend that knows what he is doing.

Remember:
Experience is equal to the costs of ruined equipment.

And I can tell!

Nope, that was definitely vague, not subtle :D I'm afraid I'm not university educated (bedroom coder, with training later :) ), so had to google to find out what the hell you were talking about :)

Do they include that stuff with computer science degrees then? (Sorry this is way off-topic now, but due to this being a Layer 8 - 10 problem (yes I read some of the document), I guess you won't mind :D )

Yer I am old enough for that one, along with:

-Air gaps in power cables
-Operator finger trouble
-RTFM
-Its say press 'f2', what should I do?
-The photo-copied floppy disc
-Tipex on the monitor

and a few other far to rude for these foums.

Thanks for making me feel thick guys!! Its not something Ive had time to play around and learn! Although I must admist I am now!!

Am hoping to sort the problem soon then back to playing!

Of course me saying Ryzom helps blow up my PC was only meant as tongue in cheek!! If it wasn't for the game that I want to play so much I wouldnt have bought extra ram! Other games have never given me the desire to be lag free!

Here's one for you...true story....during a basic IT course...
The lecturer was instructing a mature student the very basic's of how to use a PC.

The lecturer asked the student to point the mouse some the box on the screen.

The student then picked up the mouse and held it at the screen........DOH!

I don't think anyone here wanted to personally attack you *hug*

Please don't feel bad about trying.

I have been self building PC for many years....

If you want an example of 'being thick' ....

8 hours build a PC (all top of the range bits) ... switched the PC on and BANG room full of smoke and one very very dead PC ..... I have accidently switched the PSU to 120 US voltage and pluged it into UK 240 voltage.

I have killed more PC than most people have ever owned. However, its a expensive hobby and best left to the Knowledgable or rich.

Hehe, ignore us old farts :)

I hope you get the problem sorted soon - I just had to buy some new memory for my machine too, so I have a 'fingers crossed' situation tonight :D (mainly due to paranoia about memory speeds and the age of my motherboard...)

Let us know how you get on matteo :)

It was no personal attack. But I worked in computer support too long to not make a comment like that =P.

And yes I still have an old memory module that just never wanted to work with my machine although it had the right spec. Sometime having 2 different manufacturers already is a problem.

3 short beeps!

the banks of memory on the ram are fixed so no entirely sure what you mean by here!

Anything else I can do?
If I remember correctly, 3 short beeps is video. Try taking your video card out and turning it on. Should get the same peep code. Put the video card back in and make sure it is seated all the way in the slot. A little extra pressure never hurt, usually you'll feel it click into place.

If that doesn't fix it gimme a yell. Even send me a PM if ya like. I do this kinda thing for a living and would be more than happy to help you out.

Also true:
Out Prime Minister was visiting a school and was sitting next to a 7 y/o. He also picekd up the mouse and tried to use it as a remote to the screen. The 7yo snatched the mouse from him and showed him how to use a mouse.

He was head of the parliament for 6 years already then :-)
