The US has antitrust legislation that protects consumers from such predatory practices. Namely the Sherman act and Clayton act enacted by the US are clear examples that behaviour such as this needed to be prevented in the US economy. There have been several high profile cases on price fixing in the US in recent years.
Unfortunately this game was not invented nor is it owned in the US.

There should clearly be a way in-game to use the merchant system as a player to prevent fame-based sales as well as clearly marking certain people as not able to buy your goods. (Although this is easily circumvented with another person in on your deal, The list would grow and it would become clear who are the black market hawkers!)

P.S. A publishing of the 'black market hawkers' names would be nice to see.

While I completely agree with the feellings of outrage expressed here, one should also consider this possibility before branding someone publicly as a "black market hawker". If the listed price is truely outrageously inflated, and there are only one or two sets, it is possible that the so-called hawker is simply using the vendor for storage. (Not that I entirely condone this practice either, and with the 7 day limit and with the disappearance of unsold items in the latest patch it has become a more risky practice at that.)

Anyway, just a caution to avoid an erroneous rush to judgement.

If ya sees a repeated practise of resales obviously priced to sell at a badly inflated but not storage-level markup, then by all means brand 'em. Too bad there is no rope in this game, a public hanging (with no rezzing) would be mighty satisfyin'. :D (Hmmm, need an icon for an evil grin...)

Oh well I guess we'll have to make our own jewelry our pay the BM price. It doesnt realy matter to much. Its kind of like a ticket scalper. If you want it pay the price.

I think the sellers name should be listed like the maker is with the item if its not. Just so you know who to drag the kinchers to. and who to laugh at when they want a rez.

The seller's name is listed. As for getting your knickers in a bunch over this, it is the fundamental nature of a free market economy. I, for one, am doing both: I put up a few surplus Haddo items on the market at a high markup, in case anyone *really* wants them - if they don't sell after a bit, i'll happily retrieve them. Meanwhile, I have been working up my jewelcraft and have started selling to the merch jewelry up to q140. Again, the market will determine a fair price--Homins who put countless hours grinding to fill a market need should not be lambasted for pricing the end result at a profit.

As an aside - if anyone would like a batch of q140 jewelry for their guild reserves or personal stuff, and have the ability to gather the mats, send me a /tell. I will happily grind whatever you hand me and return the end results to you at no additional fee - stuff for you, xp for me, it's all good. :D

huh? how is buying haddo's (or anyone elses) stuff, and turning around to put it back on the same vendor with a higher markup, suddenly turning into "countless hours grinding". Why does it sound like you frequently do what was complained about in this thread, and are trying to defend yourself?

I don't know, perhaps because you aren't reading very carefully? My jewelcrafting is now 130, up a hundred levels since Haddo announced his vacation - you do the math. I've put a grand total of 2 Haddo 190q items on the market. Chill, m8.

And Basic - boycotts are also a facet of a free market economy, so feel free. I suspect they'll be as effective on Atys as they typically are on Earth.

two, ten, a hundred, a thousand... it doesn't matter. You leveling jewelcraft, has nothing to do with you reselling haddo's stuff for a higher price, it's a complete dodge where you are somehow trying to justify it by throwing in some completely unrelated topic.

I have no time for self-righteous people on a crusade. In this respect, I speak only for myself, and not my guild. Be well, m8, but I'm not going to further this interchange with you.
