Great post GrimJim. I think you hit several nails on their heads at once. Just how heavy is that hammer, with such a big head? Is it well balanced with a decent weight at the other end?
You've summed it up extremely well, and all I have left to say, I've already said.
I generally stay in my own, quiet, peaceful area. I don't ignore conflict if it lands at my doorstep, but I try to avoid running into it when I don't want to.
I think your analogy to the live action RP group was a good one, and illustrated some things quite well.
In any case, if you've read any of my other posts, you'll see that I agree with your feelings on this subject, though I don't think I've said as much in a direct manner.

And I could give a rats *** if they approve of my actions or how I roleplay. It's been said many times, there are rules setup in the game. The developers have designed certain areas for pvp, the story is written to provide ways in which one can RP. If people can't deal with that, then that's not my problem.

I, myself, have no way to judge you beyond your participation in the forums here, and thus, will not judge you. I am not saying he is right, but I am asking you to chill.
He's going to think whatever he wants in his mind no matter how I react to him. His responce was one big complaint about how its no fun to RP because there are people who RP villain types. And to that I respond that it's redicilous to say that the only time RP is good is if everyone is friendly and wonderful.

Roleplaying is the most important part of a mmorpg, but I do not rp all the time. There are times like being a newbie or learning something new in the game, by which I don't rp.

Top notch idea that.
I think people get to know other roleplayers if they're roleplayers themselves though, my only problem is that most of the ones I know are usually in a different land, hehe.

I want to second this idea (actually third it, since someone else already seconded it) and add to it a bit. This flag should:
a. Be easily switchable so I can revert between in-character and real-me mode.
b. Show up in the chat in some way. Either automatic <ic> tags or italics or something so when I see the words of another in something like region chat, I know their intentions. If it just shows up on them, then I won't know unless I'm close to them.
Sort of like when Malcom (in the middle) talks to the viewer directly. It should be immediately obvious whether I'm speaking <ic> or <ooc> right in the chat window itself so others know how best to respond. It would also provide a reminder to me where to be in my own head when chatting.

I choose not to RP probably 90% of the time, but that's because my guild members and I use this game also to chat with each other about our lives and the world we live in. I RP when others are RPing and I can think of something intelligent to add to the discourse, or when there is an event or situation that demands a little fictional fun.
As for being a jerk, there is RPing an evil char, and just plain being a jerk.
For the definition of what an jerk is in this game, and WILL get your account canned, read the CODE OF CONDUCT. For example, a couple of my guild members were training mobs on harvesters, to be annoying. They were trying to be funny, is the explanation I heard, as I was away for a couple weeks. As a result, one of my high officers addressed the individuals, busted one down from Officer to member status, and away we went. Now it could have been a situation where one of the harvesters complained to a GM, who would then observe this individual and can their account for goood. It has happened before and will likely happen again, but there is recourse towards folks who are completely in the wrong. If they don't want to res you out of spite or RP, or want to catcall a bit, that is their business and has nothing to do with "being a jerk." Sticks and stones and all that.

RP is fun I guess. I dont RP myself unless its just kidding around. I like to write in RP but, not play that way. Pretend is more for kids. The game itself is enough of an escape.
An adult that pretends to be a fantisy char. is kind of creapy to alot of people. And if its creapy to some it must scare others. When you scare some one they will take the fight or flight responce. In the game that means they will avoid the RP player or hate them.
I hope this helps you understand the "Hate" responce.

What they need to do is designate an entire area to RP. Make it accessable to all players. Include a few tribe camps for the different Karavan and Kami factions and throw in a town for each race. Then if you don't want to RP, you don't go into that area plain and simple.
Then again thats exactly what they have done with PvP and look what happened there.
