I just have to wonder if RP going on in the game will ever have any place in the on going story. I have to wonder if something that happens as a result of RP will ever be "news-worthy" or even "event-worthy" in the sense of being a part of the story going on in the game.

You and everyone one else playing.
Only one way to tell though...

Along the same lines of the first questioner,.. I'm curious if there's any more casual roleplay about.. preferably non-war/faction related roleplay just based in character stories etc.
I had enough factional-sunk roleplay in Galaxies, and inevidably someone takes the battle lines too far, and people get upset, and it starts to irk non r/pers.
From what I've seen so far there's a deal of roleplaying up racial tensions and predjudices, (sometimes across that sacred ic/ooc boundary where feelings get hurt), but not a terrible ammount of good old fassioned story going on.
Am I missing it? Or is the field still in it's early early phases of growth pre- freeform character developement? There is considerably more to roleplay than just the territorial war here, with all the kitin invasions etc for backdrop.

My thoughts exactly...
Maybe we'll run into each other.
Don't need thousands of people to have rich roleplay. Just a small handful, if not only two.

It would be three. I dragged my r/p buddy here with me. And if you count our multiple personalities and stories we're kinda dinking starting on, then we have a whole clan of ten, run by two people lol. Not as fun when you fill in all your npc characters yourself though, lol. Not to mention playing your own "badguys".
But I started the r/p scene in Galaxies with no confirmed r/pers, so it's possible. We just have to, well, be ic. People catch on pretty quick, espescially those who've put thought into thier characters, and then it all gets laced in story.
My characters are
Eohrah- (my main) Fyros woman with a personal quest to find her brother.
Arazia- passive Tryker youth who just met her promised fiancee.
Abreinn- newlywed Matis healer who is about to lose her father to illness.
Saera- evil Matis seductress witch who has taken up Kami ways to attain power. happens to be Abreinn's sister.
Ehbar- Eohrah's Fyros brother and shamed servant and pet to Saera, in Matis lands.
Feel free to use my other post in this forum to introduce your character's story(s), and send, any one of "me" a tell in game to get some story goin. I'm really newb level wise, but tend to level by chance as i do things for story. lol.
I'm always IC pretty much, and usually politely talk in (parenteses ooc) when I realize I'm talking with a non r/per. The key to not getting flamed (as i've experienced it in other mmo's too, weird silly drauma-ness) I've found is to always make sure the person behind the character you're r/ping with knows it's all just for fun, and not real. Like a polite /tell after a duel to say good show ooc, despite ic licking wounds. There will always be nutters, but it's still a good rule of thumb.
seriously though, send me a tell in game and we can work on getting some story and random roleplay goin.

I am a very light RPer. In fact I've never really RP'd unless it was a chatroom full of L-*cough cough* never mind.
I think RP is inevitable in this game. The great thing about it that
I like is the intense way that RP is able to exist in the PvP realm! At first I thought races shouldn't talk to each other cuz I thought 'DAOC' had it right.
However I came to realize that this game has much more 'political' potential seeing as how all characters may interact socially and 'fame' and 'factions' have a large part to do with the evolving storyline.
Something I think people forget when they want to RP here is that the game never had a set 'storyline' for us. It was something we're supposed to create over the next 7.5 years! When you embrace this, you can see RP is someting that almost inevitably plays into events.
Two key RP players in my eyes.
GM
Serious hats off to
Takashi. I've only known a few GMs from assorted muds that have done jobs on par. Like music, I think you get to a certain point where you can become one of the best, and 'the best' just comes down to opinion. Takashi is definately up there imo! Sure there's problems with events....that's all code though. Takashi doesn't code. He goes and holds tournaments, finds ways to make things happen when we're around!
Raynes, I don't care what people say. He's an RP asset. He's wonderful with his mini events, his willingness to share his knowledge, and plays his character well. If you get a chance and want some good ol' rp fun hook up with this guy for some NPC fights

Thank you for posting that. Right now there is so much going against RP, it seems that no one appreciates the stuff I am trying to do. So hearing this tells me I am doing the right thing, and that I do indeed need to keep it up.

You are doing the right thing.
Just remember that pure racial fights aren't the only RP option in the story.
I think that's what some people think of your RP. At least that's the impression that I get from some of the posts that mention you. Not that I think they're right... just figured I'd say it anyway.

There's never anything wrong with trying to nourish a roleplay scene, but what jfoxp said sounds what i've overheard so far. Just some directionless racial tensions and ic rantings surrounding some cool pvp settings.
While conflict is essential to any roleplay scene for it to be dynamic, boundaries really need to be set early on as to where that ic/ooc line is, and PR,.. not prime roots but the other PR, needs to show the community both in game as it happens and out that both sides are still just playing and embracing a more story aspect of the game, but still really ok with each other. The old shake hands after and before battle thing. From what I've read of the battles, that feeling does exist for the majority, but often times the minority are the ones setting the tone for how things are recieved.
My first intro to overhearing any "r/p" in this game was a massive rant in regional tryker land against the fyros, aimed at a fyros who had traveled there. One that did not apparently really roleplay.
That's just, bad PR, and a no-no when you're trying to build a community. You never roleplay -at- someone who does not wish to consent to it. And subjecting the entire region to a flamefest, albeit one attempting to be IC, is no way to truely encourage people to jump in and embrace a roleplay scene.
Conversly, had the fyros been a roleplayer and willing, and the two been arguing ic theory in around, not regional, as no one is ic-ly that loud, it might have attracted a more interesting scene and people could leap into the ic debate in a more pleasant setting, happening upon it, not being subjected to it.
But more to my point, that being my introduction, my Tryker character very quickly became a mere side character, because i prefer not to play around people like that and my welcome to matis and fyros lands was considerably more favorable, albeit all ooc, but nice.
First impressions are everything.
and sadly, bad r/pers tend to carry the entire community rep when it comes to some things.
if you're experiencing people pushing against there being a good r/p scene, then it's time to ask what specifically is making them upset, and try to find a community way to alleviate said tension, or given problems. but then I'm just being captain obvious here. (not to be confused with the character I saw.. lol)

I for one came from DAOC from a R/P server the sheer amount of lore in this game supports a powerful R/P potential. alot of times I find myself wanting to R/P the Fyros point of view against the number of Matis i see in the desert, but i don't want to offend anyone becuase for the most part everyone is friendly on Atys. I think people should embrace the Kami Karavan differences and play it accordingly
Something that could be done to help lower the non R/Pers from being offended is mabye having a symbol above those who wish to R/P so people know and won't get mad at them for stating a Kami pov on their Karavan char. just an idea

I personally do like to roleplay, but right now, the game to me doesn't support what true roleplaying efforts are being made, other than chit chat and glove smacking faces, a few duels, smacks around pvp area.
I am holing my roleplaying breath until more content enters the game.
