The role of melee right now is damage absorption. The role of elemental mage is damage dealing. You can tank much better than they can, they have a much higher damage output than you do.
Solo play is pretty irrelevant. This game pushes solo play out the door as a viable option at level 100 or so.
I think there's a real concern though. There aren't many roles or variations in parties. Tank, healer, damage dealer... Affliction mages can do some good, but they're the only thing that comes close to being an exception. Every melee skill can be summarized as: tanking. At high levels there is no other role to fill with the fight tree. That's frustrating.

My point is that the melee warrior is outclassed by lower level casters. Its that I would like to do as much damage at the same level. Not less at a higher level.
Thats not balanced.
As it is the healer and the melee are there to keep the caster going and that not right. It looks like that situation is getting more pronounced the higher you go. The melee keeps the mob busy and the healer keeps every one alive then the caster put the mob down.
As it stands now people that fight would rather do casting than melee. To be honest right now so would I. Its not that I would like to cast its that as a caster there is little chance that you'll take a hit and you always do the most damage.
You see it gos like this. There you are fighting inteam. Your not hitting every time, about as much as the caster. You see what your hitting for. You see what their hitting for. And you say to yourself , now that sucks. Im taking all the hits. Im taking all the damage. Why does this guy lower than me hit way harder than me.
Thats what bugs me. This game is saposed to be different. Not the same as the rest of them.

Re: Somthing thats starting to bother me.
Would you want the higher offense if that meant you couldn't dodge while performing your actions and went down like a sack whenever a mob hit you?
It seems balanced to me. What I don't want to see is one uber skill that gets all of the best of offense and defense.
Just because a mage can produce a larger single hit than a melee fighter does not mean they're better suited to take on a mob. If one type was far better at killing a mob on their own, then that would be imbalance in my opinion. However, I don't see that as the case at all.
Also, a fighter can always enchant their weapon with a great spell. I'm still waiting to be able to enchant my caster amps with dodge or 50% damage absorbtion.

I have equal levels in each.jackmor wrote:Are you melee or caster?
Balance is NOT about each skill type being able to do exactly the same damage output. If that were the case, they'd also need to have the same defense, otherwise one would have a distinct advantage.
If every skill type was able to do the same damage and have the same defense, then there's not much point in having different skill types. They'd just be the same thing with different graphics.
Balance is about each type of skill being equally valuable in a fight.

Re: Somthing thats starting to bother me.
I see no balance issues with Melee vs Caster. I am pretty evenly matched against equal level casters.. level 190 melee vs level 200 Elemental friends goes either way most of the time. Lower level casters dont stand a chance most of the time.. my melee tends to disrupt most of their spells and I resist most of them that they do get off.
Where I see balance issues is Slash vs Pierce etc. Pierce has a big advantage in melee. Bleeding is not nearly as good as Ignore Armor.. last I checked Slow doesn't even work.

The point is, at the same level you can TAKE more damage than a caster can. So if the caster could take the same number of hits as you, THEN it would be unbalanced.jackmor wrote:My point is that the melee warrior is outclassed by lower level casters. The amout of damage both classes can do is balanced by the amount of damage they can take.
You do LESS but take MORE - they do MORE but take LESS.
Sounds balanced to me.
Re: Somthing thats starting to bother me.
Well folks the casters have spoken. They like it the way it is. But if you do melee too and have your hp up you can take a few hits as a caster. I found this out as a healer. Not as many as a melee but almost as many. If your in a team the healers keep you alive so the arguement about taking hits dont fly. Concentration stanza takes care of the casting interuptions. With a couple of healers the caster can do quite well. But you casters know this already.

Re: Somthing thats starting to bother me.
Yep, I 200 magery and 59 melee - and as god as my witness, I keep getting killed by mobs in magestic garden / fleeting garden. As soon as I cast - i'm out of life. Gingoes with blind - 3 of scowling and i have a very good change of dropping. I think this is rediculous that lvl 30 mob can even touch lvl 200 mage. On a flip side, 3 gingoes dont seem to bother a friend of mine wearing light armor and holding 2h sword with lvl 140 to back it up. What is wrong with that picture?
predzz wrote:its natural that an elemental mage does more damage than a melee, else, they would hardly have any advantage over melee ?
personally i am around lvl 200 elemental and around 150 melee, yet when i solo (for example in lvl 50-100 areas) i always use melee; a lot less downtime because you lose less HP/sap/stam than an elem when fighting, even though fights will generally take longer. Also, i think wearing an amp will decrease the chance of dodging mobs, so once they get close, they are helpless.
Re: Somthing thats starting to bother me.
hmmm, i think you are forgetting something - fighting on equal level, you can still swing afterwards, a mage can not cast without sap/hp.
