How did you get addicted to Ryzom? How was your first time?

Come in, pull up a chair, let's discuss all things Ryzom-related.

Well, my husband found out about Ryzom back in june 2003 when he was looking for an open source engine and stumbled upon NeL and Ryzom. He subscribed for closed beta and got accepted in December 2003.
By that time he had a new job, and was quite busy, so I took the account and started playing/testing SoR as one of the first 500 testers.
Back then we were playing on the Zoraï terretory. The gfx and the gamplay struck me. The communication between the devs and the testers was very good (I never had played a beta before where you were in contact with the devs on a regular basis).
Aldough it still had some issues, playing the game was pretty fun and it got me hooked.
To bad I had some major computer problems wich occured in may during the first open beta. At one point I couldn't remain online for more then 5 mins, luckly these issues got resolved by June 2004 and I was accepted for focus beta.
In FTB I was forced to play the Tyker terretory, wich I dindn't like much, but this was greatly compensated by the new content introduced each week.
At release I had to wait for 3 weeks before I could obtain tha game, found myself with loads of spare time all this sudden :D

There are a few things that keep me with this game, other then game itself, its the devs and the way they patch and develop this game.
A lot of mmo's don't get patched almost every week, this one does. The rate and the way they develop this game is quite amazing. There are very few bugs, and most of them get resolved quite fast.
Aldough not much content was in at launch (they most likely were forced to release the game by thier investors), each patch introduces new content. Currently mounts and some nice encyclopedia missions are live on ATS and working pretty fine.
Often, changes to the gameplay seem odd or even a bad descision, but in the end, when you can see the whole picture all these changes fall into thier place and improve the game. So far, I never have seen a patch that had to be rolled back for some reason, all the descisions of the devs so far have been good ones (maybe not the best ones, but still ...).

To summerise it, I just like the game.

PS: Littel note for the Snr GMs or the Devs: Since I'm playing/testing this game for over a year now ... Can I have a t-shirt? :D

Obviously it wasn't curbed completely tho, or you wouldn't be posting here :)

Hmmm, second post in a few days that contains more !!!! and :D than actual post content. And by the way, you keep mispelling your acronym - it's ROFLMAO, since you need a floor to roll on. And if the above post from daniel6 really made you laugh that much, I have to wonder what medication you're on.

Anyway, back to posting something meaningful eh?

I first played the Open Beta in April 2004, and absolutely loved it from the word go. Ryzom is my first MMORPG, and before that I'd only ever played offline RPGs. For a while it was a solo affair, especially on newb island. Eventually I decided to explore the island, and accidentally asked the Kami to TP me to Pyr at a very early level :) I didn't have a clue where or what Pyr was, but teleporting there sounded quite interesting so off I went.

I hadn't grasped the map at that point, and my first experience of Pyr was getting completely lost :) Instead of heading for the exit (which was just around the corner, tho I didn't know that) I headed deeper into town, and suddenly thought the place had no exit! I asked a couple of people how I got back, and they said "You can't go back now" to my horror! "You mean I'm stuck in here now?" I asked, and got the reply "Yes, unless you use the exit" :D

After much more soloing and figuring out the game, I happened across a player called Sumanaptra, who invited to her guild. I gladly joined, making quite a few new friends in the process. We played all through the Open Beta 1, a few of us (not including me) played the FBT. I returned in early November, but sadly Sumanaptra and many other players disappeared after patch 1 :( However, some of my old guild friends are still here, and I'm still making new friends all the time.

I've been addicted to Ryzom since that first day of playing to be honest, and it's going to take a pretty strong Nerf(tm) to get rid of me :)

Happy New Year everyone :)

It stands for Rolled Over F*king Laughing My Ass Off.
If you need to spend so much time correcting peoples posts, it also brings your medicinal habits into question. (By The Way, I know I spelled F*king wrong).

Well, that's a new one on me. And I'm still sure the post wasn't that funny, whether you were rolling over or rolling on the floor. Just like the other post you replied too in the same way. Apologies, but people using LOL ROFL or whatever when they obviously aren't even laughing just narcs me, for some reason. Also makes me think of Pete Sampras with his tongue hanging out, looking a bit like a dog.

Also I only spent about 10 seconds responding to your post in particular, so it wasn't that long really.

Unfortunately I'm all out of medication at the moment, but I hope to rectify that soon.

My adiction started with the guild i joind. This whos the furst guild where i needed to ASK if i could joine.

I pre orderd wow and thoght ryzom whos a nice game to play in between games. So i started on noob fyros island with my babe fyros lady. At furst i sed darn it will take me 2 months to learn all the skils stansas and equipment. I askt in open chat if i could gimp my char. ppl sed it whos vertualy inpossibel. This whos for me a big + to the game.

I kild my furst yubo and sed a tear when i skind it 4 his hide. The motions and behavior of beasts in game astonisht me.

When i went to Pyr a person took me on a trip to Dryon i whos just out of the portal when i whos fighting monky's who kild me whit one hit. Ppl in the party dident even swair when i got us all kild by an add.

Then i met Ezex en Co. He learnd me all i knowe and dident ask enithing in return. 1 weak later i askt if i could joine his guild and he sed he neaded to ask. This whos for me a gread day when i joind a guild where you actualy dident get trowd in and left to rot. Here you came in and you dident have 5 secs for yorself. They organisd a rescue action to get me from fyros to zora. The sec i whos there gild members popt up from evrywhere to give me monny gear and help. Some hunted with me some gave me mats to level crafting.

Today i'm in a game where i feal at home. The pre order of wow will stay in its box till i get tierd or when my guildm8ts leave the game.

In short ppl in this game make it good not the game not promo actions but the community. If the devs add quests i would not be suprisd thy will have to add a new server to give new costommers a home.

This game is becomming one of the best games there will be on the market but it will take some work to get there.

Like Blogie, I too started Ryzom as something to do 'between games'. Oh how wrong I was :D hehe. My g/f was going home for xmas, and I'd recently got sick of Neverwinter Nights for the last time. Me and my g/f had been playing the Guildwars betas, and had been enjoying it a lot, such an amazingly pretty game, and such fast-paced action.

On the last BWE though, I started to have my doubts. Seemed like once you'd capped your character, there would only be so long that the pvp kept my interest. There just wasn't a feeling of community in-game. No roleplay, it really was the new Diablo.

But anyway, at the time, I still adored Guildwars. But my g/f was going home for xmas, and we had a look around the shops for something to play over xmas. There was one copy of Ryzom on the shelf in the local Game, but we asked, and sure enough, there was one out-back too. So we bought em, installed em, and got swept away in the truly amazing world that is Ryzom!

There is just a massive feeling of potential with Ryzom, and the most amazing in-game community I've ever known. I think Ailish and I will be playing this one for a LONG time :)

First open beta i started playing I just loved teh exploring aspect of the game and still do though ive ran every where bout 10 times i still like to take a we jog now and agaiont roon the map :P and the community was awesome coming from a battletech PvP multiplayer full of l33ts and kids from a particular nation who like to call us teh limey laggers or limey hackers cause they couldnt beat us. it was refreshign to go into a game and be able to hold a conversation of more than 5 words that didnt look like klingon :P

imho there is no better community out there than the ryzom community its second to none.
