PVP Poll and bridging PVP into the "living world."

Post by marct »

EDIT: Please choose more than 1 option if that suits you.

OK, Here it is the Euro-English guys have a poll, and I thought I would extend their thoughts to get your feedback for the devs. Let it be known that the Arispotle guys have yet to have an uproar over PvP while the German folks have had a guild who have been "roadside thugs" charging a fare for safe passage through an area. If you did not pay, they took your life. (sorry no Rez 4 u)

Please vote above, and provide feedback as to my comments below. It seems Polls are often more effective than ranting. And btw, if you rant and rave in my thread instead of being constructive, expect some interaction from my role-playing counterpart in game. :p

My point with this is this, ok PvP, but how does it play into the game and not just become some silly thing that is a diversion. Here is my suggestion, aren't conflicts mobile? If some Kami tribe shows up in Tryker and starts having a battle with a Karavan tribe, isn't this a "living World" PvP type thing. That local area is in a battle, and in entering, you need to choose a side. If not, both sides may attack you in fear for their lives. You could in this way assist the NPC's that you have allied with and/or hunt down the opposing tribe. This mobile conflict would force you potentially not to be able to access part of a local area for your intended purposes. In this way things would move and grow, and get out of control at times. I can't imagine why the greenseed would not find one of the nearby outposts and temporarily take that over until someone chased them out, either playing character or NPC.

The problem with this is you would then potentialy have NPCs running out and doing to harvesters what everybody is up in arms about hapening in the static PVP areas.

The big problem in games such as Ryzom is that players have no effect on the story line. PvP handled properly like I think it will be here will give players and clans a sense of destiny and accomplishment. If anyone here played Horizons you know that NPC only events can only go so far.

A goup of outlaws charging for passage should motivate clans (or GMs) to go after them by placing bounties that allows the outlaw's belongings to be looted. PvP needs balance to prevent griefing and the devs must provide this.

You should realize that alot of college students are on holiday break for a while. They may not get to see this poll for a few weeks.

But then again, it would be reason enough to keep taking polls until we get the result that we are looking for. :P :)

( a bit of info, coupled with a bit of tongue in cheek :) )

In response to the ignorant players out there:

I have more heart than anyone would know :) I will let you in on a little secret... I am doing this for my newborn daughter... no one else... I like that game, but I do not have the time anymore. My first priority is to my daughter. End of story.

I would rather have arenas and NO other PVP on our server, and a FULL FFA PVP SEPERATE server. How they would work transfers or whatever...I don't care.

I don't pay for the "fun" of immature, rude or cruel players killing me. And since I would never kill another player (other than self defence) I see no reason for anyone to attack me.

I am personaly for the PvP the way it is set up at the moment. I think Its a fair set up restricting it to only several areas. I beleive this game just wouldnt b fun if there was NO pvp or only in arenas. Those who seem to not like it are the people that harvet and let me remind them that there are other sources then those in the PvP zones. They could have made the entire world open PvP....but they didnt because they knew that a portion of the players dont want anything to do with it. The way it is set up gives both sides what they want.

Actualy you DO pay for the Fun of others. This game is a collective game thats why its a MMO if you wanted to pay for somthing that others where not playing I might not be offended by this comment. Its your choice not to Kill thats fine I have no problem with that and not my style to kill innocents, But you do have a Choice not to enter those areas and take the risk of a jerk killing you. Note I Pay for this game as well and I do wish to B able to kill others....so how do you meet both sides?

Thugs and griefers, exactly why I am opposed to PvP! I don't have fun being killed or by killing. The old system of challenges, arenas, and special events worked well.

so is a harvester's ~15$ a month worth less than that of someone who wants to kill harvesters? Is the ~15$ a month from the person who likes to PvP somehow worth more than that of their unwilling victims that seem to be such an important requirement for so many folks? The way it is setup, gives one side what they want, and gives the other side some lube... it's far from both getting what they want given that clicking neutral still makes you fair game.

It's rather sad how so many folks in some of the earlier 'rail against this pvp implementation' threads went from "well click neutral and quit trying to take away my fun of being able to interrupt your night" to "well don't go there and just play the rest of the game, it's only a few areas". Funny how it was mostly the same folks who went from "this game has a very mature playerbase and there won't be problems with pvp" type meaningless words to the equally useless but now honest "well if you don't like it then don't go there". It's not like there are folks who have said it's important for neutral harvesters to be fair game because they could use that pick attack you by supprise... with erm... a gascloud... it's not like a thread was locked as soon as some PvP supporters were confronted with the stupidity of their claims about sneak attacks by neutral harvesters. Oh wait...

So why is your 15 bucks worth more than mine? I used that against you ages ago Tetra :) Point is that PvP is there and we have to deal with it. For instance, I want alot more free for all pvp than currently available. Oh well. We both loose.

Maybe I don't want other harvesters being there? so that boots out your comment about harmless harvesters. I harvest. And I will jolt the hell out of rival harvesters and do a good bit of damage to any pure fighter than decides not to run in fear. If I'm at war with the clan I'll whack my enemies, and likely leave neutral harvesters alone

Besides! if anyone does decide to whack you Tetra you know Infinity will be there to back you up :) So don't worry about it.

And you wouldn't say such things about community if you saw how Infinity and Guardians worked toegether last night in PR to get people BB spawn points.

There were also a few others, a Vx3 I think and I saw an OmegaV Tryker. Some others to, but I don't remember since it was Chaos and People kept pulling Varynx to the BB spawn. Oh that was precious let me tell you. I was to busy getting out there to fetch Dahinda, Netep and Yow to take a screenshot. Spawn/Rip/Spawn/Rip....don't spawn! don't spawn! Spawn/Rip....I finally had a speed charge and was able to pull the Varynx out and die a few hundred meters out of spawn so everyone could spawn there.

See? I'm a nice guy, not a griefer. And I want to pk.

A 'Harmless' Harvester is economic competition and potentially combat harmful since it equips my enemies...not just griefers. Once the homin wars start (I bet you 1 million dapper there will be) we'll have enough to worry about without a few randomers.

Most people are guilded btw. So they are not 'neutral' no matter what their clan stance is. Unless of course that clan is to pansy to retaliate when their harvesters are hurt.

I think Fuzz is neutral (the only one I know of ), and so as far as killing neutral harvesters go...I guess I'm with the coalition since I won't kill Fuzz. Unless Katel starts making better stuff *wink*
