What is a 'shard?'

Hi all,

I joined yeaterday ... enjoyed the game.

Today, after downloading the patches, I keep getting 'Error: The shard is closed.' message when I try to log in?

Is this just something down for maintenance?

Server status says they are all up???

shard is the server

server status is a bit buggy the server will be down to atleast 4:30 GMT keep trying after then and you may get lucky if they get it up b4 schedule

And btw, the server is down now, you just have to wait

The server is usually always up, there are however several shards on the server, one of which is the patching shard which is why u were able to patch, but the gaming shard was down, the arispotle play shard itself.

Hope that answers your question, check Klients chat (downloadable from the main site) for up to date info on play status.

Thanks for the info.

But I wonder something. I joined the game 3 days ago. And so far the game server goes down every day for some another reason. Today shard, yesterday server was restarted due to lag, before that the game froze up for a few hours and so on...

Is the game always so crap that it crushes everyday?

Somtimes i have the same problem as you but i must say its not taht bad. The game is patching now so dont be dissapointed when you will get a lod of lag when you enter its normal they will surly do some server reboots like last time. But normaly it sould run smouthly by tomorrow.

Ow and i notect that turning of shadow's can help with lag and other probs... .

I had the problem with crashes also but that whosent the fault of ryzom its just my GFX drivers that neaded to be updated. So dont worry m8 and just ask in game /tell Tigane
