To the frustrated, confused or lost in game

Post by lyrah68 »

Please don't suffer in silence when you try to figure something out but even reading the manual doesn't help. This community, at least all of it I have seen, is the best in ALL the games I have ever been in (excepting The Realm, but when the community is less than 3k players on at prime time...you get close).

I am playing Ferra a Fyros Harvester/crafter...still in newbieland as I type this. I have found a HUGE list of players in that area that are ready and willing to help you learn what you need.

For instance, people complain about harvesting. It takes a keen eye (and the right setting on your ground clutter) to SEE the clues, but once you see them, you can FORGET the source tracking skill and spend the SP on something more useful.

And the Stanza thing is a tad difficult to learn, but HIGHLY useful once you get the idea of it.

I am planning on writing a few Beginner guides on this forum. PLEASE look up the guides, both mine and those of others and read them. PLEASE don't give up. I know the game has a large learning curve, but once you get past the learning, the game is SO enjoyable.

Thank you for such a helpful post. It's true, the community does make the game. Thanks for your comments.

Hey, Lyrah68, great idea. I started a similar Thread in the german forum. It had a nice response. There seems to be a great need for help out there!

Good luck with your community! :)

I'm having a real tough time finding certain choice items for making a rifle on Tryker Island. As of now, all I do is prospect and pray I get the item I'm looking for.

What exactly are the clues? How can I make it easier to find the items I need?
So far I only have 5m and 20 degree.

In later Harvesting levels you can prospect for particular items.... not to say that they will be easy to FIND, but it does help.

Hey a nice positive post.
Completely unsure what you mean about "ground clutter settings",and it sounds fairly important.
If your going to be writing newbie guides you might want to be a tad more clear in the terminology. This is my first MMORPG and the most frustrating thing to me is all the obscure terms and acyronyms.
What might be obvious to a veteran MMORPG player is not always so to us beginners.

This community is Great! but i have a few questions 4 this is my first Actual MMORPG cause COH isn't as in depth as this.

1.) What is the difference between offensive and Defensive Spells?

2.) What are some ways to decrease prospecting Time?

3.) Will i be good at this game if i don't Craft? I will purchase from crafters but i have little intrest in crafting. My majors are MAgic/Fighting and Harvest.

1) At first, not much difference aside from the obvious. However, as you progress past lvl 20, the skill tree will split and eventually you get to offensive & defensive specialization.

2) There are a variety of "accelerated prospecting" skills. I don't remember the exact names.

3) Yes. In fact, there is so much to do, that specialization is the key to going a long way. You can specialize as a fighter, or even a specific kind of fighter eventually, without ever knowing how to craft. Just remember to always quarter (pick up the materials that get dropped by animals you kill). You can either sell what you pick up, or give it to a crafter to use to make stuff for you. Note that some items can't be sold... meat & skulls, for example. There are missions you can take to gather those, but that's about it.

Hi and welcome. I'm glad to see someone from CoH here. Just wanted to toss my cents into the pile on your questions.

1) Coming from CoH the best way to explain this is picture offensive spells as a mixture of a Blaster/Controller and defensive spells as a Defender.

2) Haven't done much prospecting but as you level harvesting up you can grab skills to increase both the quality and quantity of gather resources.

3) Don't worry about crafting. The game has a very competent NPC item system so you won't be hung out to dry with a lame ass set of equipment if you can't make it yourself. Plus there are always guilde mates to help you uber-up.
