my last post. game uninstalled . i feel so cheated!

Post by lordzren »

yes this is a i quit post

yes there is a point to posting this

yes you can have my stuff

firstly the game box. this is what is said on the back

"epic real-time battles
fight to the death in vast battles useing ryzoms imnovative RAID engine that can depict up to 255 creatures on the screen at once or challange other players in pvp mode"

what crap did anyone see 255 creatures on the screen at once? this give the image of the game being fast and fun. where you enter a battle fighing 100's of monsters the truth is you walk out of town and find it a challange to fight one monster on its own.

"group togher with thousands of other players to uncover the secret of th planets history, become a known hero of the land and help shape the storyline that will regulary evolve diffrently on each server"

again what total crap first there isnt a player pop of 100 let alone thousands .
second uncover the secret of th planets history , become a known hero , help shape the world, regular evoleing servers.. is that in the game ? NO NO NO.

and so many other short quotes from the devs which i cannot be bothered to write.

the fact is this game is a money making con. had a good friend around today he is at uni doing computer graphic design and server design and i asked him how long it would take to make this game. he said

" based on the size of the world map , the cut and past style of the trees etc, the fact that towns are copies i would say for the graphics alone about 2 people on some good computers could prob do it in about 6 months and the code about another 3 to get it right. the hard bit would be the server but it is alot easyer now than it was 5 years ago. i would prob say about 5 months to get it going so about 1 and a 1/2 years for 2 people to make this game"

also asked him about how long for something like anarchy online to be made which he plays and he said it would take a team of people about 20 a long time to get that game right because of all the content and the scope of the map.

so this game looks very very much like a get rich quick game.

cost of making this game.. what about 50k total max? money they have made on it so far? a few million by now. do they care if it fails?

this game is a sham i know some will say its not but it so clearly is . there is no content , no effort gone into this game nothing at all. they have gms working in the game who are only people at there home pcs doing it for free. there is no real support team for this game. there is nothing.

real reason behind patch 1 ? of corse to get people to quit..

why? because the cost of keeping this game up and running would be too high. make people quit after the first influx of people and you keep alot of cash.

but why the free trial?

why not? it dosnt make any diffrence to them and if more people wnat to join pay them money and then quit whats the harm in taking that cash.

then you look at other games . eq2 some hate it some love it nobody can say they didnt spend ALOT of time making that game and putting content in. that game has a vision for the next 5 years etc.

sorry if you hate what i am saying and want to defend this game with all you got but look at the facts. you got this game it dosnt do what it says on the box and there is no big fix to get this game working anytime soon.

ask yourself this question and think hard before you reply to it.

if I spend my game time getting a chr up and get items togher etc, build a guild and everything else am I 100% sure this game will still be live in 2 years time . or will this game go down and the servers close ? do i want to take that risk? is what the game can offer worth it? and am i having alot of fun playing this game.

wow, nice post :)

but you're right on a few things: some stuff that is written on the box is not in the game, thats correct. but most of the players hope it will come within the next two months.

the thing about your friend: sorry ... no comment

well, if the game is not the right one for you, okay, so be it.

will this game last for more then two years: yeah, i hope so, but who knows
will this game go down and the servers are going to be closed: possibly
do i want to take that risk: what risk? spending a few bugs? jeez, i'd very much like that theese few bucks are the only things i have to care about

As someone else said in another thread about Nevrax taking payment...

If you can find me 2 people that can make an exact copy of the current world of Ryzom in 6 months, I will eat my hat. I mean actually eat my hat. I'll video tape it.

This includes doing all of the races lands, doing the Prime Roots, doing the individual landmark features. It includes creating and animating all of the creatures and the AI associated with them. It includes the weather patterns, the seasons, as well as the day/night cycles. It includes drawing and laying out the cities as well as planning their locations on the map. It includes creating 4 seperate races and all the character model associated with them. This includes all emotes and actions they might do. Plus all of the equipement, building styles, and movement patterns. Then you have to add combat actions and magic actions. As well as AI for the citizens and guards.

Now if 2 people can do all of that in 6 months, then again I will video tape myself actually eating a baseball hat.

I think the truth of the matter is you and your "friend" didn't take the least bit of time to go anywhere except a capital city and the region it's in.

I have fun too! - and the Euro server is about to have an invasion on Tryker :P

If you think the Matis invasion was tough ... try a lakeland one!!!!

I feel for you if the US server only has 5 people total on it.... but some how I don't beleive that for 1 second. I meet 5 people in the roots regularly and thats just 1 region of the 100+ total regions of the game!

I think some people enter a game looking for the bad.

Well, the terretories are so big and split up in regions players are spread out.
In beta it took 3 hours to walk trough each terretory from north to south (or the other way around). I could do this once when AI was down (eg: no mobs)

I wonder if you ever made it out of newbie terretory. They intended to make all the towns, area's of the newbie terretory very similar, in order to give each new char the same chance, no matter what starting position he chose. I refer to my previous comment to clarify how big the terretory is. About the towns again, I bet you never went to Pyr, Yrankis, Fairhaven or Zora.

Development of this game took 5.5 year. With a dev team of 20? (prolly more, dunno exactly) and a budget of 7 million euro. If you (or your friend perhaps) is able to make a similar game with 2 people with a budget of 50k (you can't even pay a programmer for a year with that budget, or buy all the hardware you need, the bandwith, ...) feel free to do so. I'll draw up a contract straight away and I expect a release next year, you can even use the open source NeL engine nevrax made for this game, it has better preformance then the engines used in the current competitors of Ryzom (including wow and eq2).

The gms's are paid employees of Jolt, guides are people chosen by the guides and are doing it for free.

- How many hours did you play after patch 1? With the little balancing issues, wich all were fixed within a week, I think most of the people actually playing SoR would agree patch one has improved the game and the experience.
- They ran these servers with 100.000+ players (or was it 200k+ don't remember exactly, there is a press release about it someware) during last open beta, I think they can handle a few peeps joining

lordzren wrote:

I would be pretty stupid to do nothing while wow goes in open beta and eq2 launches.

Asking myself the question .. thinking hard .. hmm, that hurts, ... Well, SoR has an 8-year scenario planned, so that will do for 5 years I think, I think development cost for eq2 are actually lower then sor, same as for the development time, since they prolly had a bit off stuff left from eq1

Did you actually play this game? Oh! you've formed a guild!!! Can I join? What was/is its name?

Well anyway, this was a good example of someone who doesn't have a clue

Ran the servers 100.000+ players? HaHA! registerd acounts on 1 beta ....
do a /who in your reagion and see how many you see...

I counted in Yrk in 1st open 250 playes on a weekday,
Now you are lucky if you see more then 10.
Even so the server have still a cap on 1000 players.
Don't write if you don't know tha facts.

How can you say they fixed all bobos the did in patch 1?
They don't have clue what they did wrong, they had to have gm's running around asking players "do you have any problems getting killed by lvl 5 mobs, even if you are lvl 100?"

There are events with hundreds of creatures. Lower level than us, generally, so we can engage in mass combat. Dozens of us fighting through thick swarms of frahar and dogs in Fyros was amazing fun. I wasn't at any others, but there was at least one with kitin so far, yes?

And the population is ~ 800 at prime time. /who only displays the people in the region you're in, not the entire continent. About 800 at prime time means dozens of thousands subscribed to Windermeer.

Have to go to work, didn't really read any more.
