The WoW community..if u can call it that ...

Post by pcheez »

Been playing a bit of WoW, the last 2 days and tbh,its a very entertaining game. But, the community is ...meh well 12yr old Bnet kiddies that want phat lewt and cannot understand that this is an MMORPG.
1. On the boards, for every intelligent new thread or reply, 10 (no exaggertaion) "like d00d wtf ? what do u mean we cant fly ,this suXorz" replies pop up. The servers have been experiencing a lot of lag lately, and have been going on and off and restarting. So after the first 10 " i cant log in" posts, tha admins decided to make a " server issues" sticky. I have tallied a total of 52 new "i cant log in " new threads today even after the sticky.
2. in game, ppl are simply rude. i ask if they want to team, they answer "pffft lvl 20, what a noob" (was a lvl 22-23 group). General chat is constantly adorned by interesting conversations about how they pwned this and how that murloc looks like someone's mom...
3. kill stealing. When a rogue runs up to my target when it has 10 hp left and backstabs it, i let it slide... but when he follows me and does the same to my next 4 targets, then asks me if i want to group.... it makes me wish i could duel him without his consent...

there are of course mature gamers playing, but they are drowning in a sea of kiddie l337ness.

The community in ryzom however, is an amazing one, so if anyone is considering moving to wow, be warned, the "community" there will make u mute the general channel and play all the way to the top solo...

well just my opinion :) .

The forums are pretty bad, that's true.

Cannot say the same for ingame, though. So far I only got annoyed about the other players once (when I and another player just cleared a cave to a bossmob we had to kill and another group stormed in, killed the boss and left *without a word*). But exept this single occurence..nothing.
*Shrugs* Ir's probably dependant on server & region, I am Undead on server 22 (Eastcoast, PvP)

im human on server 15 PvP, central time. and in genenral, there are more alliance than horde players, the horde seems to get the mature kind apparently ...
Met a lvl 15 ish party that wanted me to show them where the deadmines *dungeon crawling with lvl 20-25 elite humanoids* was . after a lenghty conversation and trying to convince them it was suicide at less than lvl 20, their leader called me a " G@y A$$ nOObtard..."(exact quote). so i lead them to the deadmines and even cleared the entrance for them. without so much as a thank you, they march right in. 3 mins later i get a tell " can u rez ?". so i fight my way to them, and rez the leader. I can only rez 1 person. so he goes off telling me how much of a noob i am because i cant rez his friends...

From a phycoanalytical point of view, kids will always be more vocal as they haven't been "beaten down by life" yet.

Adults (or so called Adults) on the other hand swan about proclaiming themselves "mature" and also have a habit of defending bad games to the death. This is because Adults know sod all about pop culture as they are "Past it", kids don't listen to Adults for good reason because when it comes to pop culture they think they know it all but know jack.

"Yeah they hit hella hard too" got me told off ingame the other day by somebody "Mature", I think it's very immature to be offended by the word "hella" and even more immature to live your life being offended by words.

"Adults" calling kids "Immature" is also immature, the statement is obvious biologically, why feel the need to reinforce the obvious in order to try gain some superiority or social standing or to create divides? is this not childish in itself?

Oh my.. you actually helped them? Would have told them the approximate location and then added a few names on my ignore list.
That's really bad - either I must be lucky or you unlucky. The worst I got were some annoying people, but only because they tend to run around like scared chickens when they have aggro instead running *towards* the tanks. Perhaps we got both two extremes.

Also, one thing which should be taken into consideration is that it's a free beta currently - which have usually a more than average amount of bad apples.

nice posy meyithi - im 36 year old but i agree with what you have said - just help people you get to know first and form your own bonds within the game - and let others do form thiers.

WoW iz t3h 5uXX0rZ!!!!11!!1

Ryzom iz t3h w1n!11!11!

i 0wnZ j00 all u r al n00bZ

(Sorry, couldn't resist)

I am reminded of an experience I had during a spell playing BiosFear. Someone asked me to group with them, which I did. They then spent the next 30 minutes basically trying to order me about in l33t sp34k. It was interesting and even amusing at first - "follow me", "wait here", "help", "don't help" etc but after a time it became tiresome, especially when I was constantly being threatened for attacking 'his' mobs (we're grouped remember) so I dropped out of the group and went to do my own thing.

He proceeded to spend the next 30 minutes following me about, trying to KS me and telling me what a n00b I was, despite the fact I could one shot mobs that could one shot him :-)

I've only come across one person in Ryzom even remotely like that, but not nearly as bad.

I would hazard a guess that (for the most part) players in Ryzom are more community minded as opposed to more 'mature'. Some people would call that maturity, but as already stated you don't have to be a kid to be a d00d and you don't have to be an adult to have a mature attitude.
Call me Legion, for we are many...
