I know most of this is old news, but I was on vacation for the past couple of weeks and this was my first time playing post patch 1, so bear with me.
Playing my tryker crafter, Widget, has suddenly become nigh impossible. I used to be able to buy mats to advance my skill and sell the finished product or sell raw mats I harvested for cash. Now it seems that not only is getting Q20 mats nigh impossible with harmful extraction, (I found out the hard way that explosions are much, MUCH more dangerous now) but buying them is also out of the question, with ONE mat costing me 500 dappers. (I'm on noob island btw.)
So, my only option left is to harvest, but the problem is I can't ever seem to find what I need. I realize prospecting for specific mats comes later, but I kinda need them now. lol.
Anyway, I guess the point of my post is to ask you all, the community, for tips. Either I just really suck at crafting/harvesting, or Nevrax upped the games difficulty beyond what I had expected.
Thank you in advance,

Re-Noobified. My post patch woes
Re: Re-Noobified. My post patch woes
Player mats cost half as much as NPC mats. However, newbie island is its own little place, and people pass through more often than not, so buying things from vendors to level is going to be harder.xeno113 wrote:I know most of this is old news, but I was on vacation for the past couple of weeks and this was my first time playing post patch 1, so bear with me.

It's hard to get started with harvesting because you have so little variety of skills. The ability to find mats you want takes some foot work and scouting. Build harvesting skills up first. Harvest anything just to build exp and also to build up your dapper.
Care plans really help. Buy ground stability and use it when the explosion bar starts to drop down a bit. You can see when an explosion or gas is coming, so stop harvesting and get a care plan going. You should be able to get at least 1 mat out of any source before it kills you at Q20 materials. Self heal is your friend too. Gentle harvest is also very useful now because you get far less exploisions and such. It costs more focus, but less death.
Harvesting is slow going at first, but once you get some exp under you and some abilities it's much easier now than it was pre patch.
Each newbie town tends to have certain mats around it. Do some scouting and check the areas around the towns for various mats. It may take time, but you should be able to find the mats you need for crafting.
Once you build up some cash from harvesting, you can turn back to crafting and buy some mats off the vendors to help you craft up.
