Since Friday's Patch 20, I have found gaining experience extremely difficult. Not sure why. I suspect it could be related to the game crashing horribly every 8 to 10 minutes, without exception (hence my post in tech forum).

Stun: No.
Fear: No.
Blind: No.
Madness: No.
Nukes: No.

Nothing, not a god damn thing. I eventually gave up in frustration because the only way for me to gain any XP at all is by healing people and guess what.... I DO NOT WANT TO BE A HEALER.

All the melee fighters in my team were getting xp, the guy who was healing was getting xp... I was lucky to get XP 1 out of every 3 fights if I didn't heal.

I know there are the kissasses out there who are going to come up with a myriad amount of excuses about what I should be doing here and how I'm retarded because the game is just fine... sure whatever.

Just explain to me one thing: If everyone else in my team is getting XP, we are obviously fighting a monster we can beat. How come if we can beat the monster using level 40-100 melee and level 50 heals I cannot contribute at all with my level 80 offensive magic powers? Not even a tiny bit.

Do you have any idea how frustrating it is to see three monsters die in a row and to get >0< experience for it?

I freaking hate the changes to this game!
Sorry to see you are not having the experience in this game you hoped for. Some of us are having no problems getting offensive magery levels with the right mix of people and the right mob, however. I was in a team killing Arana at 2500 xp per kill and we ranged from 50-150 (approx) in level, with the higher level people using some of their lower skills except in cases of emergency... and our two offensive mages, who were probably our lowest level players, were leveling like mad. One of them did nothing but cast madness, for most of the time we were there, and she went up 8 levels. The other one was casting acid that was barely able to damage the aranas. She would no way have been able to bring them down herself, but the fights were lasting long enough for her to get in several shots that were not resisted. I was also leveling really well, getting from 71 to 75 healing in just a couple hours, but using Madness 4 occasionally did also give me a few offensive affliction xp points. My offensive affliction is only at level 56, too.

Later that evening, we did pick up a very low level melee fighter who was dropping and being rezzed almost continuously while we fought aranas and ocyx in the same area. He complained bitterly and endlessly about getting no xp, but that could very well have been because he really was too low to damage the mob or indeed even to stay up long enough to hit it... or it might be a sign of a flaw in the combat system. I'll agree that more adjustments may be needed, but bringing it all the way back to what it was I don't want to see. It was just way too easy, not only to level, but to do anything in the game really.

Honestly, jim152, it looks like you need to just leave Ryzom and not look back. It's obvious to even the casual observer that the game is causing you nothing but frustration and anger, and nothing in any upcoming patch is likely to change that any time soon, if at all.

So, I will say goodbye and good luck to you in what ever you choose to do next.

I have come to the same conclusion. I can't group with my friends anymore, so really there is no point in pushing on.

A few of us tried it, we all agreed: It no worky.
I believe it's pretty clear to most that the "few of you" don't know enough about how to play properly to assess any skills functionality. Many folks are doing just fine, yet it seems some of you dont get it... There is no way for dev's to account for bad players...

anyways, since you sure as hell won't be supplying these numbers i'll do a little calculation:
Full team = 9 people, each of them 80-100. Each of you got 1k XP from the mob, which puts it at lvl 160-180. Now assuming you are lvl 99 in deff aff you have access to Power 100 aff spells, now all of them say : "Magic Power Stanza recommended for xxx enemies whose average skill level does not exceed 100."
So it's not really strange that your spells would all be resisted, which is the sole reason for you not getting any XP.

Conclusion: You were using the wrong spell lvl, or can you prove me wrong?

Recommendation: Find mobs that you are able to affect and which you can kill at a reasonable rate while still getting XP, with a group of your size you should be able to kill mobs that give, say, 400-800 XP for each of you at a nice rate.

A mob that gives 9k exp to a level 100 guy is only like level 130 i thought.

120-130 im pretty sure.

9x1000 XP -> also 9k XP
same lvl mob gives 1500
same lvl +10 ~3000
so 160-180 shoudl be about right, note, all of these figures depend on the HP of the mob too

but well, seeing as he didn't even mention the type of the mob all these calculations are rather theoretical =)

Here is me: Hey guys, I know none of you are having problems killing these things...but can we move over there to the lower XP enemies so that I can get some xp?

Absolutely, problem solved. Thanks.
